Gautam Adani promises Rs.10,000 cr investment over next decade

Gautam Adani, always accused by many Opposition party leaders for his friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday made a commitment of Rs.10,000 crore investment in Trinamool Congress-led West Bengal. At the inaugural session of Bengal Global Business Summit 2022 (BGBS) here, Adani said the group’s investments will span world-class port infrastructure, state of art data centres, and undersea cables that will connect them across the oceans, centres of excellence in digital innovation, warehouses, and logistics parks. Group company Adani Wilmar currently has an edible oil plant in Haldia.

“Over the next decade, we expect our total investment in Bengal to exceed Rs.10,000 crore. Thereafter, as we continue to expand here, we will bring into Bengal our world-class expertise across the green energy value chain,” Adani said at the sixth edition of BGBS. This is Gautam Adani’s first appearance at the state’s business summit. Adani is also the highest bidder for the Tajpur deep sea port but the state is yet to announce Adani Port as the L1 bidder.[1]

“What I am committing to bring to Bengal is the best of the Adani Group – our expertise in infrastructure, our speed of execution, our experience, and our focus on building bigger and better. What I am committing to bring is the technology and scale that will help recalibrate infrastructure in Bengal,” he said.

He said the investment will help generate 25,000 direct and indirect employment. “What I am committing to bring is the promise that I will live up to the expectations of the people of Bengal,” Adani said, in presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Addressing business tycoon in the global investment summit, the Chief Minister said that the State, which was at one time known as the strike capital of the country, has brought down man-days lost to industrial action to zero from 75 lakh annually. “Bengal is the first state to organize a physical business summit since the Covid pandemic struck. It is the gateway to eastern and northeastern India, neighbouring Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal as well as South East Asia… And we don’t divide people in the name of caste, religion, and creed. We stay here as a family and you are all family members when in Bengal,” she said.

“We lost 75 lakh man-days every year during the Left Front rule, but now no man-days are lost. The working class and the industry are my hero,” she said. The CM said West Bengal has also readied a policy on the grant of shale-gas exploration licences. Banerjee added that by 2023, the state will join the national gas grid.

  1. Do they have land ? Do they permits ? Do they have approval of Mumtaz Didi that Sangrur event will NOT happen again ?? when it is starting i.e. business agriculture of sowing false seed promises & false talks

  2. Annual ritual of business investment commitment. What is the business plan, where there would be investing, what business they are starting i.e. selling heroine & ganja or fake currency printing ??
Time for media & others to stop publishing such oral commitments without any valid basis.
Year after Year, same ritual – Hindustan Times summit, Times of India summit, Filmfare summit, Pan Parag & Manikchand business summit….etc..
