BRICS countries: Afghan’s land shouldn’t be used for terror activity

The heads of BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) countries on Thursday passed a declaration that the territory of Afghanistan must not be used to carry out terror attacks against other countries. The five-nation heads summit also “strongly called for combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including the cross-border movement of terrorists.” The grouping held extensive deliberations on pressing issues including the situation in Afghanistan at a virtual summit chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The summit, hosted by India, was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Brazil’s Jair Bolsanaro. The BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) brings together five of the largest developing countries of the world, representing 41 percent of the global population, 24 percent of the global GDP, and 16 percent of the global trade.

The summit also endorsed the BRICS Counter-Terrorism Action Plan for implementing the grouping’s Counter-Terrorism Strategy that was adopted by the NSAs of the member nations of the grouping.

In a declaration issued at the end of the summit, the grouping called for refraining from violence and settling the situation in Afghanistan by peaceful means. “We call for refraining from violence and settling the situation by peaceful means. We stress the need to contribute to fostering an inclusive intra-Afghan dialogue so as to ensure stability, civil peace, law and order in the country,” the BRICS said.

The declaration by the five-nation heads summits also condemned in strongest terms the terrorist attacks near Kabul Airport recently that resulted in a large number of deaths and injuries[1].

“We underscore the priority of fighting terrorism, including preventing attempts by terrorist organizations to use Afghan territory as a terrorist sanctuary and to carry out attacks against other countries, as well as drug trade within Afghanistan,” the BRICS said. “We emphasize the need to address the humanitarian situation and to uphold human rights, including those of women, children, and minorities,” said the declaration.

Referring to the threat of terrorism, the BRICS said it is committed to combating the menace in all its forms and manifestations, including the cross-border movement of terrorists. The summit also endorsed the BRICS Counter-Terrorism Action Plan for implementing the grouping’s Counter-Terrorism Strategy that was adopted by the NSAs of the member nations of the grouping.

“We express strong condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations whenever, wherever and by whomsoever committed. We recognize the threat emanating from terrorism, extremism conducive to terrorism, and radicalization,” it said. Reiterating that terrorism should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization, or ethnic group, the leaders said, “We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to contribute further to the global efforts of preventing and countering the threat of terrorism on the basis of respect for international law.”

“We reject double standards in countering terrorism and extremism conducive to terrorism. We call for expeditious finalization and adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism within the UN framework,” it said.

  1. This BRICS statement is a run of the mill variety, I have been reading for over three decades and this time seems to have been influenced by Bapu 2.0 (PM Modi) under Vasudaiva Kutumbakam! Terrorists bee hives activities are under way in Kerala, TN, WB States and back up supply from TS much in store. All these Photo Ops Summits are a waste of time at the back drop of each country has its own headaches back home.
    Not a word on Pakistan!

BRICS- Brazil is under pandemic weather, Russia is a pocket borough of China, South Africa has its own vats of vows while India has its own basket of old and new issues and decamping Indian Embassy in Afghan was an error of judgement and by not letting our defense forces putting pressure on Pakistan borders seems to have been influenced by USA, and Russia. Indian government seems to be waiting for break up of Pakistan and China in near future but ground realities are that Pakistan extended its arm into Afghanistan and a piece of cake may be taken away by China, Russia keeps us busy in meetings and sells its dud weaponry to Vishwa Guru PM Modi ji like it did with UPA1 and UPA2 governments.

What is this UN Frame work hiding facts on Wuhan from the world thus safe guarding China? What did Anti Terror Action Plans are in place with in India?
