Status quo continues in Lok Sabha

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]T[/dropcap]hat The axis of the Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Communists will not allow the smooth functioning of the House was evident on Friday morning itself. Why the Congress and TMC disrupted the proceedings over a non-issue remains a mystery. There is no substance behind the charges by TMC MPs that the CBI has become a tool in the hands of the BJP-led NDA government at the centre. Two TMC MPs have been arrested by the CBI in connection with the multi-crore Saradha Chit Fund fraud perpetrated on the people of the country. It is almost clear that the needle of suspicion is pointing towards Mamta Banerjee, the chief minister of Bengal. The TMC is being supported by the Congress and the Communists as part of the MahaGatBandhan that is evolving in Bengal against the BJP.

There are many issues in this country which needs urgent attention of the House than Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s Bill demanding the Government of India to declare Pakistan a terrorist State.

Even if there are no issues, the Congress and the Communists will not allow the budget session to proceed smoothly. They know well that if they allow the functioning of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha without interruption, may unpleasant truths and facts would come out. That’s the reason why these Opposition parties interrupt the proceedings at the drop of a hat.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, an independent member from Karnataka, wants the Indian Parliament to declare Pakistan as a sponsor of terrorism. Why he introduced the Declaration of Countries as Sponsor of Terrorism Bill 2016 is not known. There are many issues in this country which needs urgent attention of the House than Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s Bill demanding the Government of India to declare Pakistan a terrorist State.

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]P[/dropcap]rime Minister Narendra Modi is doing his best to normalise the ties between the two countries though it is known to all that Pakistan is the force behind the terrorist attacks on India. The country has an external affairs minister in Sushma Swaraj who is helped by ministers like General V K Singh and M J Akbar in guiding the Prime Minister in his dealings with Pakistan and the rest of the world. Was Chandrasekhar’s mission to hog the limelight at the expense of Rajya Sabha? Had he devoted his time to introduce a bill which would help in resolving the dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over the Cauvery River water, it would have benefitted crores of people.

This brings into question the real agenda of the disrupters – embarrass the present government over non-issues.

Members like Chandrasekhar are not in sync with ground realities. Chandrasekhar is also the proprietor of Asianet News, a Malayalam TV channel which abuses, humiliates and insults Prime Minister Narendra Modi in all the news bulletins and programmes telecast by the channel. A staff member tells us that Rajeev Chandrasekhar has allegedly given specific instruction to the news bureau to be highly critical of Prime Minister Modi but not to attack Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

The intention of Tiruchi Siva, the DMK member who introduced an amendment to Article 324 of the Constitution which mandated that no teachers should be deputed for electoral duties, was to portray the Union Minister of Human Resources Minister in poor light. More than making any suggestions to improve the quality of teachers or to offer alternative ideas to make electoral system foolproof, Siva was lamenting over the more than hundreds of thousands of vacancies of teachers lying unfilled in states like UP, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. The hypocrisy of P J Kurien, vice-chairman of the House came out in the open when he instructed Union Minister of State for External Affairs M J Akbar to convey to the HRD minister about the vacancies of teachers in the above mentioned states! Kurien should be aware of the fact that appointment of teachers is the responsibility of the concerned State governments and not the brief of the Union government…

This brings into question the real agenda of the disrupters – embarrass the present government over non-issues. Even L Ganesan, the septuagenarian BJP member who made his maiden speech in the Rajya Sabha failed in countering the allegations by Tiruchi Siva against Madhya Pradesh government for its failure to appoint more than 1,00,000 teachers in the schools. “There are more than 7,000 schools in MP which has not even a single teacher,” charged Siva. But Ganeshan failed to counter the charge against Madhya Pradesh from where he was elected to the Rajya Sabha… Nothing surprising in the BJP continuing as an infant in Tamil Nadu!!
