Man with a guilty conscience fear raids, says CM Yogi defending IT raids

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hit out on the politics being played over the IT raids conducted on several places yesterday.

Yogi said, “Only a man with a ‘guilty conscience’ would fear the raids. ‘”Chor ki dhadhi mein tinka‘ (a man with a guilty conscience needs no accuser).”

“How can someone’s wealth double in five years… it is possible only in the SP government,” the chief minister added.

“Do these criminals and mafias deserve your vote?” the chief minister questioned.

CM Yogi Adityanath slammed the Samajwadi Party leader while addressing a rally in Mathura. “I was watching yesterday (Saturday) that income tax raids were causing much heartburn to the Samajwadi Party leadership. I asked someone what was the reason and he said that it was a classic case of a guilty conscience,” he said during the launch of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) ‘Jan Vishwas Yatra’ from Mathura on Sunday.

Earlier, IT raids were conducted at the residences and offices of Jainendra Yadav in Lucknow, Rajeev Rai in Mau, Manoj Rai in Agra, and some other close aides of Samajwadi Party SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.

The raids on close aides have irked SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. He slammed the raids and termed them as reflective of BJP’s ‘fear’ of losing the forthcoming assembly elections in the state.

Yadav further said that he expected visits by the CBI and Enforcement Directorate too. He said, “BJP will be wiped out of UP. People of the state won’t be fooled. Why was Rajeev Rai not raided a month ago, why now? Because elections are near?”

  1. I don’t understand why the Govt has done precious little to chase down black money, except for using CBI, police, ED, etc against political opponents only before elections.

Just to clarify, I’m not finding fault with action against Aiswarya Roy, or anyone else. I’m against stopping all action after the search dramas. Govt should have done a lot more in these 7.5 years. In the absence of these actions, even supporters of the Govt feel cheated.
