Come On Rajdeep!

Is Rajdeep the pot that is calling Arnab the kettle, black?
Rajdeep Sardesai

I don’t know whether to laugh or do something else at high-profile journalist Rajdeep Sardesai’s demand that Arnab Goswami of Republic TV quit journalism. Rajdeep was commenting on an old video clip of Arnab in which the latter is describing how his car was attacked with trishuls by a Hindu mob 50 mtrs from the Gujarat chief minister’s residence in Gandhinagar during the 2002 riots. The then CM was Narendra Modi. Rajdeep claimed that he was in the car at that time and that Arnab was nowhere in the picture. Calling Arnab a white liar, Rajdeep has demanded that Arnab bid adieu to journalism.

Rajdeep was in possession of crucial audiovisual tapes which showed a TV sting of three BJP M.P.s’ support being purchased for Singh’s vote of confidence in Parliament by a representative of Amar Singh.

Arnab hasn’t responded, but his Republic TV claimed that he had very much covered the 2002 Gujarat riots without specifically referring to the Gandhinagar car incident.

Rajdeep might well be true because he had clearly mentioned the car incident in his book on the 2014 elections which saw Modi romp to power.

But, does Rajdeep, who is posing as a highly ethical journalist, has the moral right to ask Arnab to quit the profession?

It was Rajdeep who brought himself and the profession of journalism to utter shame in July 2008 when he deliberately held back a huge news scoop that would have brought the highly discredited UPA government led by Manmohan Singh down.

Rajdeep was in possession of crucial audiovisual tapes which showed a TV sting of three BJP M.P.s’ support being purchased for Singh’s vote of confidence in Parliament by a representative of Amar Singh.

Manmohan Singh had strangely risked the very existence of this government on the controversial Indo-American nuclear deal issue. Amar Singh had made a mysterious visit to the U.S. on the eve of the crucial vote of confidence and soon after his return had started shopping for support for the trust vote.

Any self-respecting journalist would have gone to town and aired the tapes, whose authenticity has not been questioned till date, exposing the chicanery of the corrupt Manmohan Singh government. Had the tapes been telecast before the trust vote the government would have most certainly collapsed. But Rajdeep let down the nation by holding back the vital tapes.

And now he is talking about things like professional ethics et al. Some gumption this.

  1. Sir, I think Rajdeep clarified why he did not run the audiovisual tapes. I am not sure but he mentioned about this case in an interview with Madhu Trehan: https://youtu.be/UuxV_TCgCto
I don’t know if the reason he has given is the truth or he is talking about the same case as you have mentioned in this article.

    Thank you!

  2. Rajdeep is not just a pot that is calling a kettle black.
He is a huge coalfield on his own.
His vision is yellower than the jaundiced eye. He represents the monochrome world of the obnoxious Red brigade

  3. Please investigate the nepotism involved in promoting Rajdeep’s father in law who became head of information and broadcasting during congi regime. Heard his bunglow is worth 52 crores in Delhi. Time to investigate the black money involved in this.

  4. What about the exposure made by Rajdeep on Arnab’s claim, is that fake or genuine ? According to your story it seems both high-profile Journos are another big FEKUS.

  5. Rajdeep is shameless and does not hide his negative bias and hatred towards BJP. He almost cried in his channel when the news of Nitish Kumar resigning came. He shouted “Is this BJP game?” instead of reporting first the news. Shameless is not a powerful enough word to describe him.Terribly biased guy and so unethical as a news reporter.

    • Our Angrezi journalists depend so much on “secular govts” for various favours, hand outs etc. No wonder they tend to cry at the demise of one such benefector.

  6. It is not gumption Mr Balakrishnan. It is SHAMELESSNESS. I have not seen a more shameless journalist in India than this guy. Well, probably Barkha Dutt and Srinivasan Jain come close to Rajdeep in shamelessness, but this guy is the king.
