Communist ideology of Kerala

Published by

Sandesham (Malayalam for Message) is a 1991 movie directed by Sathyan Anthikkadu, ace movie maker. It went on to create a number of records in the history of Malayalam films because of power-packed dialogues delivered in an innocent style. Sathyan, a Leftist, forecast in 1991 itself about the rut that has set in the Communist Party of India (Marxist) because of its intransigence not to move ahead with the times and the indecisiveness staring at the comrades because of the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the demolition of the Communist ideology[1].

There is a particular scene in this movie where the elder brother (played by Sreenivasan ) who is a Marxist having a verbal duel with his younger brother (Jayaram), a Congressman about world politics. The younger brother who got disgusted with his elder brother because of his passion for Communism and unwavering belief that socialism is the only panacea to all problems faced by the world, asks him: “What happened in Poland? The communist government in that country was thrown out by the people and they made Lech Walesa the President.” The elder brother was so shocked at the audacity of the younger brother and warned him: “Don’t utter anything about Poland.” This dialogue went on to become a masterpiece in describing the fallacy of the Communist ideology.

Wilson, the labor who was working for the owners was arrested and he told the police that it was he who placed the explosive stuffed Pineapple in the plantation to entice wild animals, the meat of which commanded a good premium in the State. Wilson, a Christian hailed from Malappuram like his bosses.

A similar real-life situation has taken shape in Kerala. It is a cardinal sin to utter the names of accused in criminal cases if they happen to be from the minority community, especially the religion of peace. The public in Kerala got the first taste of this phenomenon when the news about the gruesome death of a 15-year-old pregnant elephant was reported in the media. The elephant trespassed into the plantations in the periphery of the Western Ghat forests in search of food. It accidentally chewed a Pineapple stuffed with explosives which were laid as a trap by the plantation owner Abdul Kareem and his son Riyaz. The high power crackers exploded inside the mouth of the elephant which incapacitated it from taking water or eating any food. The poor pachyderm died in the forests adjacent to the plantation and the news was disclosed by the forest officials. Since the incident happened along the vast stretch of land lying along with the Palakkadu-Malappuram districts, the forest officials had said that the incident happened in the Malappuram district.

This upset not only the majority community members in Malappuram district but even their brethren in other parts of the State. Leaders of the Muslim League, Popular Front, and SDPI charged that this was part of a hate campaign launched by the Sangh Parivar to portray the Muslims in poor light. A case was filed against former union minister Maneka Gandhi who said she was shocked by the incident and this kind of cruelty was regularly taking place in Malappuram district. A criminal case was filed by the local residents (no prize for guessing who the complainant was) against Maneka. On the third day of the accident, Wilson, the labor who was working for the owners was arrested and he told the police that it was he who placed the explosive stuffed Pineapple in the plantation to entice wild animals, the meat of which commanded a good premium in the State. Wilson, a Christian hailed from Malappuram like his bosses.

Kareem and Riyazudden were absconding and are yet to be traced. On Saturday, the Kerala Police issued a lookout notice for them. But the Kerala Police too was scary to utter the word Malappuram in the lookout notice and they completed the ritual of issuing lookout notice by printing the name of the village while the name of the district was nowhere to be seen.

In Kerala, even policemen are afraid to say or write anything which may offend the members of the religion of peace. Hence, the first lookout notice in the history of Kerala Police that has been published without the name of the district has been released on Saturday. It is a collectors’ item and people who come across the lookout notice and advised to save the same. Antique and unique materials command a good premium. Who knows, in another couple of years, the antique collectors would come to Kerala in search of this lookout notice which does not have the name of the district from where the perpetrators hail.

  • There's a dangerous Islamo-Marxist alliance being built up in North Kerala. This has been going on for some time. A section of the party intellectuals support this. The recent marriage of the Vijayan's daughter to a Communist party member of the Muslim faith may further cement this alliance. The next Assembly elections will decide which way Kerala society will go.
