Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to make “corrupt” and “Chidambaram’s confidant” Shaktikanta Das as the new Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Chief. Citing media reports of Shaktikanta Das being one of the candidates for the new SEBI Chief, Swamy said that his name should be removed, if it is in selection panel.
Swamy also produced CBI Director’s letter to Shaktikanta Das on inordinate delays in the Aircel-Maxis scam probe due to the non-cooperation from Finance Ministry.
In his letter Swamy accused that Shaktikanta Das was acting as Chidambaram’s man and acted to protect the interests of the former Finance Minister P Chidambaram. He accused that the officer was trying to sabotage the Aircel-Maxis probe to save Chidambaram.
“Mr. Shaktikanta is to retire from government service sometime in February this year. He began his first posting in the state of Tamil Nadu when he came under very adverse attention for several corruption in matters from land allotment to foreign collaboration agreement.”
“He was promoted to a position in Delhi as a confidant of Mr. P Chidambaram who was then the Finance Minister during the UPA tenure. As a Secretary in the Ministry of Finance he was widely perceived as acting to protect the interest of Mr. Chidambaram in his financial affairs whether it was the case of 2G Spectrum Scam, Aircel-Maxis scam, NSE fraud, manipulation of the stock market, etc,” said Swamy detailing how Shaktikanta Das tried to scuttle the Aircel-Maxis probe of CBI.
Swamy also produced CBI Director’s letter to Shaktikanta Das, published in PGurus in July 2016, on inordinate delays in the Aircel-Maxis scam probe due to the non-cooperation from Finance Ministry.

I believe Dr Swamy more than the politically correct Jaitley. I feel the BJP’s constant cold shouldering of Dr Swamy is is a sign of its vulnerability. Modi strong persona is somewhat overshadowing all these aberrations of NDA governance. Jaitley may also be blocking decisive action against PC for some unknown legacies!!!
