The fate of the students of NIT Srinagar hangs in the balance

Unlike their batch mates studying in different NIT’s students of NIT are coping up with variety of issues at the cost of staking their own career. is there any one in HRD ministry who can pay attention and listen to their ‘Mann ki Baat’.
The fate of over two thousand budding engineers admitted in the National Institute of Technology (NIT),Srinagar continue to hang in balance as the college authorities are struggling to start the academic session due to ongoing unrest in Kashmir valley.
The admission process for the current session is long over but the academic classes for the fresh batch of students are yet to begin.
Keeping in view the prevailing law and order situation the college authorities had extended the date of reporting in the college campus to October 3.
Now it remains to be seen whether the outstation students would arrive in the campus to start their academic session or would continue to stay away citing security concerns.
Due to uncertain future the majority of outstation students have once again raised the issue of either shifting the NIT campus out of Kashmir or relocating the outstation students to different institutions to save their careers.
The fate of these students will be decided during the meeting of the Board of Governors on October 4.
According to rough estimates over 2000 students studying in different semesters had moved out of the NIT Srinagar campus after unrest started in the aftermath of killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8 this year.
Since then these students have failed to return due to ongoing cycle of violence. Over 80 people have been killed and over 12000 have received injuries in street protests during the period.
Little over 150 students are currently present in the NIT campus.
The institute was scheduled to open to July 27 but the date was extended to October 3.
[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]F[/dropcap]rom time to time the outstation students have been trying to convey to the NIT authorities in Srinagar that their families were not willing to send them to Srinagar due to prevailing law and order situation.
Many companies have already backed out from conducting placement week in the campus due to prevailing unrest.
The campus was also in the news earlier this year after a scuffle between local and outstation students broke out on the campus leading to violent clashes between the two groups of students.
A section of students have also shot off a letter to the Union human resource development ministry, requesting that either they be put in another campus outside Kashmir or the NIT be shifted out of Srinagar.
FA Mir, registrar at NIT Srinagar when contacted said,“ due to prevailing law and order situation we had extended the last date of registration for the new semester to October 3″. Mir said the fate of the students would be known on October 4 after the meeting of the Board of Governors.
[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]T[/dropcap]he final year students are suffering the most under the prevailing circumstances.In the absence of regular classes their semester is bound to get delayed and on top of it the placement season would be completely washed out if similar law and order situation prevailed for some more time across Kashmir valley.
Uncertainty over Campus interviews
Many companies have already backed out from conducting placement week in the campus due to prevailing unrest.
“The college authorities have assured us alternate arrangements would be made to facilitate job interviews in other campuses but we are not sure when it is going to be organised as we are yet to appear in our final semester examination”, a final year student revealed.
To make up for the loss of academic calendar the NIT authorities are rescheduling the academic calendar by cancelling winter break and other holidays.

It is utter stupidity and naked appeasement of recalcitrant anti Indian separatists to have started N I T,I I M,AIIMS, IITs etc in Kashmir after exodus and killing of Pandits en mass. The present Govt is also on same distribution spree to the area vastly disproportionate to their needs.
I sympathize with the inconvenienced students and urge the Govt to withdraw them to other institutes and close that NIT if the situation persists.
If not for lack of studies the outsider Indians will be targeted and harmed on other pretexts.
