If the wife of a Minister cannot get timely justice, how can the common man aspire for the same? Tomorrow is January 17. Four years have passed since the brutal murder of Sunanda Pushkar and the Delhi Police looks nowhere close to solving the case. Sunanda, wife of the then Union Minister Shashi Tharoor was found dead on January 17, 2014, at Hotel Leela in Delhi and it is a known fact that the husband and wife were feuding fiercely over Tharoor’s alleged affair with a Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar. And after a year, with much prodding, the Delhi Police (DP) registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sec 302 of IPC involving murder without naming anyone.
How long will “powerful people” continue to hush up the Sunanda murder probe? Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh owes an answer for this.
Three years after the filing of the FIR, though the DP questioned many including husband Tharoor, nothing substantive has emerged. From the very first week of the murder, country’s premier hospital AIIMS came out with a concrete report that the reason for her death was poisoning and noted several injuries on her body. The case got revived only after BJP leader Subramanian Swamy approached the Delhi High Court (DHC) in mid-2017, Delhi Police, in September told the court that they are now using a new investigation method called Psychological Analysis by summoning all concerned including husband Tharoor. In the DHC the first six hearings of the case were heard by Justice Sistani[1] and in one hearing, the DP also told that they have given details to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding the Indian Premier League (IPL) Cricket betting racket angle in the case[2].
But all of a sudden in the next hearing a new judge – Justice S Muralidhar – was assigned the case and he, on the very first day, without hearing Swamy’s arguments, dismissed the case[3]. This was a really curious and bad judgment. Instead of going into the delay in probe of a murder case, Justice Muralidhar was finding fault with the political affiliation of Subramanian Swamy and co-petitioner Ishkaran Bhandari speaking to media about the case[4].
Now Swamy has approached the Supreme Court (SC) and the appeal is expected to be heard on January 22. It is curious to note that the Judge got changed after Justice GS Sistani started asking details of the IPL cricket angle and directed the DP to file the final probe report within eight weeks. Till now no one has offered an explanation as to why the change happened!
Why is the Delhi Police, which is directly under the control of Union Home Ministry delaying the probe? It is certain that the DP actions were silenced by people in power connected with Cricket administration. It must be kept in mind that Sunanda was murdered within 24 hours of declaring that she will expose the IPL Cricket’s dirty activities related to Tharoor. It is a fact that she had called four prominent journalists to come to her Leela Hotel to give details of the IPL cricket frauds in the early morning of January 17, 2014[5]. But within hours she was found dead.
How long will “powerful people” continue to hush up the Sunanda murder probe? Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh owes an answer for this. It is high time the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Home Minister intervened and directed the Delhi Police to fix the highflying culprits in Sunanda Murder case. Justice delayed is justice denied.

Nation is helpless to give justice to the woman who was murdered in broad day light, in a five star hotel, by her own husband, who walks free !!! Supreme Court & entire country is watching, but doing nothing. Govt also tired NOT to act.
