Pharma companies across the globe are struggling hard to develop a vaccine to control the COVID-19 patients
“Due to the global pandemic this is certainly a time of crisis but for we Indians, this is also a time for a firm resolve. We must always remember that the present and future of 130 crores will never be dictated by adversity. We will decide our present and our future..” is what Prime Minister Narendra Modi told through a personal letter to his countrymen on the occasion of the first anniversary of his government on May 26, 2020.
But unseen and unheard by the Prime Minister a group of bureaucrats aided by some clueless ministers is derailing and subverting his dream of a developed India. The speed with which India is racing to the top position of the table of countries with the maximum number of Coronavirus patients underscores this fact and has shocked a section of medical fraternity in the country.
The team of physicians was led by the legendary Dr. P R Krishnakumar of Coimbatore Arya Vaidya Pharmacy, who has been honored by Padma Sree by the President of India and who is regularly consulted by heads of countries in Asia and Europe.
Even as pharma companies across the globe are struggling hard to develop a vaccine to control the COVID-19 patients, the Government of India’s Ministry of Ayush, formed to promote the Indian system of medicine stands as a stumbling block in the efforts of the country’s venerated Ayurvedic physicians to control the Coronavirus pandemic by an effective drug.
Modern medicine has failed miserably to develop an effective drug to check control of the COVID-19 pandemic or for that matter, any disease caused by viruses. The common cold, the Spanish Influenza, the swine flu, the birds flu, and the SARS are some of the pandemics caused by viruses that still rule the roost as there are no “effective” drugs available to cure them. Though we have a vaccine by name Tamiflu to administer during swine flu, it is yet to get recognition from the fraternity of physicians because of its side effects. There are many general practitioners like Dr. Margaret McCartney of Glasgow, Britain, who wrote to British Medical Journal complaining about medical associations bullying physicians to prescribe Tamiflu despite the reservations expressed by the former over the efficiency of the medicine.
Immediately after the Spanish Influenza of 1918 which claimed 80 million lives, massive research missions commenced in the developed world to find out a vaccine for the flu. The Cold Research Centre which was opened in London in 1948 functioned for 50 years and published hundreds of research papers but the vaccine for flu or influenza remained elusive. Finally, after spending 500 million Pound Sterling of taxpayers’ money the Cold Research Laboratory wound up its operations in 1999. But before the laboratory was shut down the scientists were magnanimous to tell the world that they failed in their mission but the drug for flu would come from India, from the traditional Indian system of knowledge,” said Prof B M Hegde, renowned Indian cardiologist who retired was the first vice-chancellor of Manipal University and who authored the sentinel volume “What Doctors Don’t Get To Study In Medical School.”
Though the “titans” of modern medicine claim that the vaccine for the Coronavirus is round the corner, there is no sign of it hitting the pharma shops across the globe in the near future. Time is running out as the number of patients succumbing to the Coronavirus is on a Northward journey. It was at this time that the Acharyas of Ayurveda came together and developed a drug and treatment protocol for COVID-19 which they submitted to the Ministry of Ayush under the Government of India.
In a period like this when a pandemic is devouring hundreds of lives every day, the question is how a minister and his secretary could relax and play jumbled word games in social media.

Though Dr. Krishnakumar could have gone ahead and prescribed the drug to his patients, he chose to play by the rules of the game and submitted the drug and protocol details to the Ayush Ministry for clinical trials by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
The ICMR bosses are all from the stream of modern medicine and they have contempt for physicians practicing the Indian System of Medicine. This may be due to the incapability of Ayurvedic physicians to speak Queen’s English and dress in designer trousers and shorts as being done by the desi Europeans practicing modern medicine.
The drug developed by Dr. Krishnakumar and his team was submitted to the Ministry of Ayush, the umbrella organization promoting Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani which are classified as the Indian system of medicine in April 15, 2020. The body which controls the Ayush is also headed by an MBBS doctor who is the drugs controller of India. (Please do not ask what this “babu” knows about Ayurveda because as per the age-old Indian standards, the less one knows about a topic, the better!).
Though it is almost two months since the medicine was submitted for clinical trials, the minister for Ayush Yasso Naik and secretary (Ayush) Rajesh Kotecha did not respond to the queries on the fate of the drug developed by Dr. Krishnkumar. Readers, please understand that Dr. Krishnakumar is not the kind of person who pesters ministers and babus to know about what happened to his application because he is not a fortune seeker. And it is improper on the part of anybody to expect that professionals like Dr. Krishnakumar or his friend and diabetologist of international repute Dr. C V Krishnaswamy of Chennai ringing up the office of a minister or government secretary to seek their blessings. In a period like this when a pandemic is devouring hundreds of lives every day, the question is how a minister and his secretary could relax and play jumbled word games in social media.
Deep-rooted conspiracy to destroy and demolish Ayurvedic stream of medicine
Ayurveda has the solution and it can be bought at affordable prices. When the persons who matter remained unresponsive to the questions, a report appeared in a daily stating that Ayurvedic medicine is getting a raw deal in the hands of the powers that be. The secretary woke up from his slumber and sent a message to Dr. Krishnakumar: “Sir, you have direct access to me. A call to ask the reason would have been better. All of the reputed persons quoted here have also direct access to me. It is unfortunate to read this and it pains more when all of the team of Ayush is working hard.” Dr. Kotecha, an Ayurvedic physician himself, should have taken the lead in getting the drug developed by Dr. Krishnakumar and team clear the clinical trials. But he preferred to be the secretary in the true sense of the word, a person who is the repository of all secrets!
The whole of India is shattering because of the severity of the pandemic. Modern medicine is yet to give any ray of hope about a vaccine that is getting ready somewhere. But an Ayurvedic drug that could improve the immunity power of the population so that the virus causing COVID may have to go in search of other victims would have made India a superpower in healthcare and wellness. But there is every reason to believe what Dr. Krishnaswamy told while asking about the indifference of the Ayush bosses: “There is a deep-rooted conspiracy to destroy and demolish Ayurvedic stream of medicine. It is being hatched in Western capitals where global pharma giants are threatened by the superiority of the simple but effective and humane Ayurveda.”
It is our own countrymen and babus who are responsible for the state of affairs which we see. People like Yasso Naik and Katecha do not deserve to be in their positions. Moreover, the policymakers are yet to understand that there is no need of any clinical trials for Ayurvedic medicines. Clinical Trials are held to assess the adverse drug reactions of newly developed medicine. “But Ayurvedic medicines do not have any adverse drug reactions because any substance causing adverse reactions are neither drug nor medicine,” said Dr. PLT Girija, a lead ayurvedic physician in Chennai. This is with regard to the article “Global conspiracy to derail India’s Ayurveda” published by Team PGurus on June 08 2020.
While I certainly agree with some parts of the article, I would like to make a few clarifications –
1) The statement “Dr.Krishnakumar and his team of physicians have found the drug effective and without any side effects” – my team in AVP has not developed any drug. An expert committee constituted by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India had several discussions and based on a theoretical understanding of Covid-19 from the various research papers published, and Ayurveda’s understanding and experience of different kinds of similar conditions, a research design was created around a treatment protocol and proposed to be studied scientifically – we are still awaiting approval for the same from ICMR
2) The statement “the body which controls AYUSH is also headed by a MBBS doctor who is the drugs controller of India” – I am completely unaware of this and thought that the Ministry of AYUSH is part of the Government of India and I don’t believe that there is any “body” that controls AYUSH
3) The paragraph which talks about the “secretary waking up from his slumber and sending a message to me…” – I am sorry but I do not know where you got this information as also the details of the message all of which is fabricated. I have great regard and respect for the Secretary of AYUSH and would never say anything like this.
4) I must reiterate here that the Secretary, Vd.Rajesh Kotecha, has done a lot for Ayurveda ever since he came into this position – and I am extremely happy that a Vaidya is the Secretary of AYUSH. Vd.Rajesh Kotecha has certainly achieved much as the Secretary and is passionately committed to the promotion of Ayurveda and hence I strongly disagree with sentiments expressed about him in this article
5) I believe that the combination of the Minister for AYUSH, Yasso Naik, and the Secretary of AYUSH, Vd.Rajesh Kotecha, have done considerable good for AYUSH and will never do anything that will go against AYUSH
6) Yes, it is true that approval for the proposal is pending for almost 2 months now but I don’t believe that it is for want of effort of the AYUSH Ministry; however certainly it would be nice if we did not need to seek approval from ICMR, a body that knows very little about AYUSH medicine

Hon PM has promoted Yoga extensively even to international platforms. Ayurveda was mentioned in his national TV cast , which must have probably never happened before. Disturbing facts of Indians, two will be mentioned – western junk food and second witnessed recently- scramble for alcohol , what do you expect to happen to immunity. Coming to subject , the ‘kwath’ recommendation be followed by citizens who believe and trust Ayurveda to boost their immunity. For the rest of the issue ,vigorous pursuance is required which is a norm in India.

Can’t they conduct their own studies? I mean it’s not that hard to put 20 people in a group given the treatment and 20 in a group that didn’t and compare the results. Or are they expecting to use the same systems and methods to evaluate Ayurveda like they use for modern clinical trials?
First and Foremost even perception matters. Let those who are fed up with Allopathy’s shylockian ways. get Govt to rename AIIMS as AIIWestern)MS unless they have full fledged Ayurvedic and Siddha Blocks as one tweeple has been advocating. Also like govt sending Muslims as ambassadors to Saudi, they make it a point only to appoint an allopath (mostly useless ) ones as Minister of Health. such a Ministry should be called Minister of Disease and a man of native medicine (Ayurvedic/Siddha or Varma) should be appointed as Minister of Wellness. And any allopath spreading poison on native systems should be debarred from practice. These modern Dr’s are trained to belittle our system of medicine.
It is ironical that China has forced WHO to come out with an official communique tacitly approving Chinese Traditional Medicine while our bureacracy is busy stalling genuine efforts on Ayurveda and it’s trial during the pandemic. This is Atma Nirbhar Bharat? Our bureacracy must unlearn their western sectarian quack approach before trying to serve the people.
I am allopath but practicing TCM as it faster or as fast as Allopathy and safe as AYUSH. We have TCM immunotherapy and DT blood letting with gut renewal that works to prevent cytokine storm 8n Covid19 but Allopathy mafia will not allow it to succeed.
To Dr M Dutta, yes your point is extemely important. I have directly written to Ayush secretaries and its minister about this. Not merely ‘tacit’, WHO has included TCM *only* in its diseases classifications. Not a word from our government about this dangerous bias by WHO.

I wish to add to my earlier post. The Ayurvedic doctor developed an Ayurvedic cure for Covid 19 and requested for trials to be conducted on AP based patients by approaching local MP and as expected he received no support. The doctor has a small unit in Guntur run by his son, and registered with AYUSH at Vijayawada. He has not visited even Hyderabad and his patients are mostly rural.
I had interaction in US with few PIO doctors last Oct seeking their opinion. They expressed that they have not come across any research papers and not sure of Ayurveda efficacy. One doctor expressed it was superstition surrounding the treatment while another OK ed the usage.
I have a feeling by Dussehra there will be stability but death may be inevitable for atheists and people with bad graha stage.Anyhow no medicine works on patient with bad graha stage. The summation is the efficiency of cure is linked to doctorS hand ( non commercial ) + usage of organic herbs with correct quantity+ diagonising using kundalini of patient. In such a scenario how can west produce Ayurvedic doctors,unless the doctor has astrological knowledge.
We don’t have to keep giving benefit of doubt to Modiji.. it is high time he gets rid of errant ministers and officials and cracks the whip on those creating hurdles. Excuses are not acceptable in the 7th year of his prime ministership.
Why should there be any clinical trial at all ? Ayurveda works more as a food supplement and when taken it has NO side effects. At the same time allopathy too can be tried.I was a victim of osteo arthiritis, for 10 years with no remedy for pain in spite of experimenting with allopathy, and my physician confirmed that there are no drugs for this ailment which is due to agening process. By chance I met an Ayurvedic family parampara doctor in Srisailam, a forest area in AP with abundance of natural herbs and I tried the dosage for 60 days and one morning the pains disappeared. It seems Ayurveda has cure for ailment of organs and medicine is offered through free consultation. For general info I give the usage and combination of medicine.
1) For immunity and control of cholesterol: 1/2 spoon thriphal churna + Ayurvedic drops in 200 ml water, early morning intake.
2) For knee pain and joint pains: Two cloves of garlic + Ayurvedic drops in 200 ml water.
3) For sugar control: Full spoon triphala churna + Ayurvedic drops in 200 mi water.
4) For BP control : 100 GMs bottle gourd juice + Ayurvedic drops.
5) Kidney stones removal: 200gms carrot juice + 200 GMs cucumber juice + Ayurvedic drops, 20 days in take 200 ml in morning and 200 ml evening. No need for surgery.
6) liver disease: 10 GMs curry leaves in litre water boiled + Ayurvedic drops + jeera powder, morning and evening.
7) thyroid control : 10 GMs morenga leaves ( drum stick ) in litre water boiled + Ayurvedic drops, morning and evening.

Let’s not gloat as yet.
When I said bad days for European pharma, I meant not only Ayurveda will catch up but Indian pharma is growing rapidly. Indian medicines are far cheaper than western pharma. Last year China has pushed in US their version of herbal medicine for sugar after getting FDA approval at affordable price.

The Modi govt. must establish the Indian Council of Ayurveda and grant it the same status as ICMR.
This should be taken to the notice of our Honourable Prime Minister for Necessary action
Even this tragic problem is the direct result of the extreme corruption & graft in India 1947-2020 & nothing really substantial will be impossible to achieve unless & until the corrupt are democratically & legally annihilated.
