Gadkari says that water will be diverted towards the Yamuna from three rivers flowing into Pakistan

After the terrifying Pulwama attack, India has stifled Pakistan with each passing day, with the Modi Government increasing the duties on essential products which will cripple Pak’s economy, and removing them from Most Favored Nation (MFN) status.

Gadkari had told that the water will be diverted towards the Yamuna from three rivers flowing into Pakistan

On Wednesday, at the public meeting, Gadkari had told that the water will be diverted towards the Yamuna from three rivers flowing into Pakistan. This is another step forward to post the terror attack in Pulwama.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said “Our government has decided to stop our share of water which used to flow to Pakistan. We will divert water from eastern rivers and supply it to our people in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.”

Gadkari said as per ANI report, “Construction of dam has started at Shahpur-Kandi on Ravi river. Ujh project will store our share of water for use in Jammu and Kashmir and balance water will flow from the second Ravi-Beas link to provide water to other basin states. Above projects are declared as national projects.”[1]

He also said that in order to divert water towards the Yamuna, the centre is planning to build the project on three rivers flowing into the aggressive neighbour.

Gadkari also tweeted about the upcoming projects which would help divert water towards the Yamuna.

India shares the water of the Beas and Sutlej rivers with Pakistan, under the Indus waters Treaty which was signed in 1960. As per the Treaty the Ravi, the Beas and the Sutlej rivers belong to India and the Indus, the Chenab and the Jhelum to Pakistan.

  • This should have been done after URI attack. Better late than never. Don't know why modi govt was hesitating for all along four years.

  • It may appear that we are stopping the water flowing to Pakistan but actually we are rectifying our error of not using our share of water. Indus water treaty is more than 40 years old What was the Congress doing when it was in power?

  • Why mislead in headlines. Every news report says the same in headline. We are not stopping water to Pakistan but fully implement Indus treaty.
