Infosys promises to fix issues within a week
With 15 days of continuing glitches in the new Income Tax portal, Tuesday’s meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Infosys officials ended with no solutions – except Infosys promising that all issues will be sorted out within a week. Top officials of the Finance Ministry and Income Tax were present and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) made presentations and pointed out the glitches happening in the new Income Tax portal designed by Infosys for Rs.4242 crore.[1]
The new Income Tax portal launched on June 7 is still having a lot of glitches creating real pain for taxpayers and Chartered Accounts to upload tax returns. Losing temper on June 8, Finance Minister tweeted to Infosys and its Chairman Nandan Nilekani to rectify the portal immediately.[2]
After Tuesday’s meeting, Income Tax Department tweeted, which was retweeted by the Finance Minister that Infosys promised to clear the glitches within a week.

Can Infosys clear glitches within a week? Still, their 2017 hosted GST website is still not user friendly after getting Rs.1380 crore from Government.
Chartered accountants’ apex body ICAI made presentations on various issues being faced on the new Income Tax e-filing portal during a meeting with finance ministry officials and Infosys representatives. The meeting was chaired by Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister. Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj, CBDT Chairman Jagannath Mohapatra and other finance ministry officials were also present. Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) said officials from CBDT and Infosys were very receptive to the issues being conveyed by it. “They assured that the issues will be taken care of and shall be resolved at the earliest,” ICAI said in a statement.
The Finance Ministry had asked ICAI to constitute a task force of seven representatives to look into the technical glitches/ issues being faced on the new portal. Accordingly, taking cognizance of the matter, a team of seven members was constituted by ICAI President Nihar N Jambusaria to analyse the issues. The ICAI team in the presence of Jambusaria made presentations on different issues being faced on the portal.
“We believe this process will be almost complete in a phased manner and problems will be resolved on daily basis. For Tax Audit Report, which is awaited by CAs, the utility shall be available by 1st week of July 2021,” the statement said.
Every Indian Taxpayer and Chartered Accountants are now eagerly waiting when Infosys will rectify this very important portal of public importance. Many opined that the Government must revive the old hassle-free portal of Income Tax, till Infosys rectifies the new portal.
