  1. Thanks for introducing Mr Nagaraj of Saamaniar TV to PGrurus viewers/ readers, Mr Sree Iyer.

IMHO, BJP has done the right thing by making Mr Annamalai the Party Chief of TN.

Annamalai is strategically doing the right things by positioning himself and BJP as the Main Opposition in the absence of any voices from ADMK. He’s doing a great job. In any case, ADMK is just another form of DMK, and so they won’t have much to say, and even if they do, they will not sound credible. Both DMK and ADMK fight for the same ‘market positioning’ in marketing terms.

There are a few issues on which BJP and PM should support Annamalai and TN BJP, the main among them being language policy. If BJP is seen as a Hindi heartland Party, IMHO, no one incl Annamalai can do much headway in TN. Even from a fairness angle, India belongs to all states, incl non-Hindi speaking states, and so imposing Hindi on non-Hindi speaking states is unfair to other states.

Though almost no one has talked about it, IMHO, BJP’s loss to TMC is partly because of being seen as a Hindiwallahs Party.

Till the language issue is resolved in their minds, BJP will find it difficult to gain significant entry into TN and other non-Hindi speaking states.

People in TN are not opposed to Hindi per se’, but what they perceive as Hindi imposition.

For some time, BJP may be able to manage majority without support from non-Hindi speaking states, but if they want insurance against loss in these states, they should gain significant ground in non-Hindi speaking states. And they should tactfully do it such that they don’t lose the support of people in Hindi heartland on language issue. Not easy, but not impossible.

    My 2 cents.
