Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Rahul Gandhi has once again has proven that he is dumb by raising a bizarre demand of allowing night travel through dense forests from his constituency Wayanad to Mysore, which was banned by several courts. The courts started imposing night travel ban from 2008 through these dense forests which also include the biggest tiger reserve – Bandipur National Park.

After reiterating this foolish and curious demand, Rahul on Friday landed in Wayanad to attend the protests demanding the lifting of the night travel ban, which was first started by some lobbies of nearby Churches[1]. It is a well-known fact that certain travel companies and some timber mafia are behind this atrocious demand of lifting the night travel ban, which was imposed by the Karnataka Government, ratified by the High Court and the case is now in Supreme Court.

The Courts have imposed a night travel ban through these forests after seeing videos and photos in open court about the plight of poor animals hit by trucks due to night travel. Many timber mafias were looting these forests till the Courts imposed ban on night traffic. Citing the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, all the courts banned the movement of vehicles in the night through the Bandipur National Park. One of the affected states – Tamil Nadu – agreed to Courts’ Orders and Kerala state went ahead with appeal in the apex court. Kerala Government even came out with the idea of elevated corridors through forests and it was shot down by the Environment Ministry.

Many environmental activists have come out against Rahul Gandhi for this anti-environmental stand and they remind him that the stringent Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 was passed by none other than his grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. They also accuse Rahul Gandhi of falling into the hands of timber mafias and travel agencies, who initiated these protests through local Churches. The activists accuse that certain people in Rahul’s coterie are bribed by illegal forest produce trading lobbies in Wayanad, the Constituency in Kerala where he was elected, while losing in Amethi in May 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

It is very clear that those behind the demand of night time traffic r looters who want to devour forest produce.It is possible that Rahul joined this brigade because,he probably has been promised a cut.Even the local BJP leader has gone on record supporting this forest looter Mafia.Mr yedyurappa however is on record that he will not allow night time traffic.Hope good sense will prevail with Central govt and the courts,not to succumb to timber mafia of Kerala
