This is the second instance when Karti has ignored CBI. Why is it showing leniency?
Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram again defied the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)’s summons notice to appear before the agency on October 4 in connection with the Aircel-Maxis scam probe. This is the second time that Karti is defying CBI’s summons even after being slammed by the Supreme Court (SC) in the other bribery case of INX media. Karti’s lawyer in the morning came with a five-page letter to CBI with curious claims that the agency has no authority to summon him. In the letter, Karti reiterated his fake arguments that the case was discharged by 2G Special Court. But the fact is that 2G Special Court has only discharged the Maran brothers and CBI has already appealed against the discharge order.
Now the ball is in the CBI’s court (figuratively) on how to deal with a non-law abiding accused like Karti. CBI can issue an arrest warrant for defying their summons twice.
CBI Spokesperson said that Karti and father Chidambaram’s role in the illegalities in the FIPB approval and accepting a bribe is still under probe. Karti also said in the letter that he will challenge the CBI summons in the Supreme Court. “The CBI and other investigative wings under the control of the present Union government, from time to time, issue malicious press releases or take coercive action driven by political vendetta in order to blatantly sensationalise and publicise this campaign against my client and his family with the intent to malign their reputation,” it said, asking CBI not to proceed against him as he was approaching Supreme Court against the agency.

Meanwhile in the INX media case in Supreme Court in the afternoon, CBI reiterated that Karti tampered with evidence during his visits abroad. Karti was personally present in the SC to brief his lawyer Kapil Sibal. His mother and senior lawyer Nalini Chidambaram was also seen in the Court briefing the lawyers.
The agency told a bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra that there was a need to issue a Look out circular (LoC) against Karti as he had the “potential” to tamper with the evidence and that he had done this during his visits abroad.
“The LoC has two purposes. First, considering the investigation, he (Karti) may not become an outlaw and second, he can tamper with the evidence outside India,” Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for CBI, told the bench.
“I will show that he (Karti) has the potential to tamper with the evidence. During May 13 to May 18 and the second week of June to second week of July, he went abroad and did tamper with the evidence. I will justify this,” Mehta told the bench, also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud.
Sibal questioned the way in which the CBI was seeking to place on record certain documents in a sealed cover, after Mehta referred to legal provisions and said that these empowered the probe agency to share case diary with the court without sharing them with the accused. The case was adjourned to October 9.
The question is why CBI is showing leniency to the errant non-law abiding Karti? Can any person who is summoned evade from agencies like this? Why is the CBI top brass not acting against Karti who is evading from interrogation?

It’s a clear case to misuse the political position. Had it been done by other person, that person could have been arrested by now. Why even Government is being so lenient on initiating strong action against him? Is the phrase ” Law is equal for all” being confined only to books?
Supreme Court should order arrest and impost heavy penalty
CBI should not show any mercy to Karti. This is high-time fix this arrogant man. CBI should show its might and arrest him and it should be lesson to all arrogant fellows
