Kashmiri secularism is anti-India

Published by

All in all, Drabu — himself a Kashmiri and part of the system — deserves kudos for succinctly describing the nature, leadership, ideology and area of influence of NC and PDP

Former Finance Minister and one of the architects of the seditious and divisive PDP-BJP Agenda of Alliance (AoA), Haseeb Drabu, has very candidly reflected on the nature of leadership, ideology and area of influence of National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while commenting on the controversial Gupkar Declaration I and II. He has said there is no difference between the two and the real differences between the two are personal, not political. Absolutely correct.

“Not that there is much to choose from between the two… Idiosyncrasies and individual preferences of their leadership apart, the real differences between the two are personal, not political,” he has said. Not just this, Drabu has also said that both NC and PDP are autonomists, Valley-centric and essentially Muslim parties.

“Both are autonomists. Both are valley centric; PDP from inception was meant to be so and NC became so after parliamentary pact with Congress (in 2014) wherein it electorally ceded Jammu to them. The social capital (read Muslim capital or constituency) of the two parties is exactly the same. There is no class differentiator either”. But more than this, Drabu has termed the Farooq Abdullah-led Gupkar Gang of 20 as a new Hurriyat and described it as “mainstream Hurriyat” committed to “status quo ante” (read pre-August 2019 politico-constitutional status of J&K). NC, PDP, Congress, PC, CPIM and ANC constitute the Gupkar Gang.

Ladakh is out J&K enjoying UT status. Jammu Province could be the next to enjoy full statehood status. Things are fast heading towards that direction. The political situation in the J&K UT is such. Jammu province is destined to become a separate state

What Drabu has said is not based on heresy. It’s based on solid facts. Even NC, PDP, Congress, Hurriyat Geelani, Hurriyat Mirwaiz, Hizbul Mujahideen, JKLF, to mention only a few, have consistently given every one to understand that their core constituencies are Kashmir, (non-existent) “Chenab Valley” consisting of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts, (non-existent) “Pir Panjal Valley” consisting of Poonch and Rajouri districts and part of Kargil district. The votaries of Greater Kashmir have divided the Pir Panjal Mountain into two imaginary Valleys – Chenab and Pir Panjal – with BJP walking into their trap on March 1, 2015, when it allowed PDP to incorporate these two communally motivated and un-geographical terms in the AoA.

Kashmir is 99.99% non-Hindu, Kargil tehsil almost 95% Shia dominated and the five districts carved out of the mighty Pir Panjal Mountain – natural border between Jammu province and Kashmir – house many non-Hindus, around 12% of Jammu province’s population. It needs to be noted that proportion of Hindus and Muslims in the erstwhile Doda district is 45:55; in Poonch, it is 10:90; and in Rajouri, it is 40:60.

All this should set the record straight and establish that all the Kashmir-based so-called mainstream and separatist outfits are patently exclusivist, committed to and furthering a break-India agenda. They have no place whatsoever for the non-Muslim minorities (40% of J&K population) in their scheme of things. Only recently, NC president Farooq Abdullah claimed that people of Kashmir, Kargil and Pir Panjal share the Gupkar separatist sentiment.

The politically conscious people of Jammu province and Ladakh were fully aware of the separatist and communal credentials of NC, PDP, and even Congress and other Kashmir-based smaller and marginal political outfits and formations. That was the reason they all through sought reorganization of the erstwhile State of J&K, reiterating again and again that they couldn’t have any kind of connection with Kashmiri leadership whose watchword and battle-cry all along was a dispensation outside the Indian Constitution as they considered the followers of one particular religion in Kashmir a race apart, and not part of Indian nationhood.

Ladakh is out of J&K enjoying UT status. Jammu Province could be the next to enjoy full statehood status. Things are fast heading towards that direction. The political situation in the J&K UT is such. Jammu province is destined to become a separate state. And it must become in the larger national interest. It, along with separate homeland for internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus within Kashmir, has all the potential of defeating the Kashmir’s politics of separatism based on religious fanaticism.

All in all, Drabu — himself a Kashmiri and part of the system — deserves kudos for succinctly describing the nature, leadership, ideology and area of influence of NC and PDP. However, his assertion that “both are broadly secular in outlook even if it may not appear so from the composition of its cadres and leadership” is dumb-founding. It’s beyond comprehension. He would do well to explain why he termed them secular after explaining in detail their nature, their constituency, their ideology and their area of influence and calling them a new Hurriyat. He just can’t redefine the already much abused and misused “secularism” Indian-style. Indeed, the Kashmiri secularism is anti-India.
