Will Modi and Pinarayi jointly display the visionary leadership that is the need of the hour?
The massive havoc wrecked by the rains in Kerala is, to simply put, numbing. God’s own country is today a land devastated by rains and consequent floods. It is as if the Gods are angry with their own country. A massive human tragedy is unfolding in the state. However, instead of merely bemoaning the situation the need is to convert it into an opportunity to make it a world-class state in terms of infrastructure et al.
Japan rose from the proverbial ashes of the Phoenix after the total devastation of WW II. Why can’t Kerala also bounce back?
The immediate need is to set up a joint command of the Centre and State government to quickly prepare a roadmap for restoring and augmenting the infrastructure in terms of road and rail linkages, repairing airport runways, hospitals, drinking water facilities etc.
According to the initial back of the envelope calculations, the state would need at least Rs 20,000 Crores. The actual expenditure could be much more once. A clearer picture will emerge once the waters recede. In any case, the damage is unlikely to cross Rs 50,000 Crores. Where is this money going to come from? This money can easily be raised by selling the assets of Nirav Modi, Neehal Modi, Mehul Choksi, Vijay Mallya and other assorted fugitives from the law. These and other criminals collectively owe the banks $ 2.5 billion. Add to this that the $ 2.5 billion Mukesh Ambani owes to ONGC, we will have more than enough to not only rehabilitate Kerala but give it international calibre infrastructure which will attract global investors.

It has an entrepreneurial class with a proven track record on global markets. The current grim situation should be converted into a great learning experience which can be replicated in other states. Will Modi and Pinarayi jointly display the visionary leadership that is the need of the hour? Adi Sankara, who hailed from Kalady in Kerala, displayed visionary leadership at a pan India level. The Yogi and Commissar are now presented by History with a similar opportunity.

It is amusing that author seeks inspiration from Adi sankarya and not from any modern kerala or national leader.This shows complete lack of trust of common people towards politicians and bureaucrats. To be fair to engineers, no structure are designed for 100 years rainfall except for few big bridges, so infrastructure collapse is imminent.The focus is to be mainly on rescue and restoration. As long as jugar concept stays with India,nothing will move forward.Those putting up temporary steel truss for Atal bihari vajpayee(ABP) cremation couldn’t complete roofing with corrugated sheets in time so they left one sheet hanging at the top. Couldn’t do the task for ABP in time,what you expect for the commoners..all are “Ram Bharodse”
The CPM LDF and UDF have been at the helm of affairs by looting the state dry. Today it is like the Roman Empire under Commodus. Another tragedy is on it’s way. The back will break now finally. The abusive CPM the corrupt priest of the church. Atrocities and murders since the days of Karunakaran will overflow into the disaster we see today. Karat, Yechury, Chandy, Rahul, Sonia, and host of pimps and cohorts slept together with the Muslim Madani, PFI, Ansari. This was bound to happen. Where is darling Arundhati Roy, all vanished. More is still to come your cockroaches are going to die in this flood.
God’s own country with the devils own people. No politician worth his salt has any vision. All have a crazy commi mind set. People have lost their civic responsibity by grossly ill treating environment. Hope these floods have taught them a lesson.
Excellent, positive and doable solutions but the need for showing an unflagging resolve is the need of the hour and day. Not aerial survey and announcing a humongous amount by way of relief.
