Kashmir valley: Crackdown by New Delhi imminent?

Lawlessness is increasing in different parts of Kashmir valley with every passing day.

Despite the presence of a large number of paramilitary forces, state policemen and Indian army jawans on ground zero lawlessness are increasing in different parts of Kashmir valley with every passing day.

Series of bank robberies, targeted killings of local political workers, the gruesome murder of an army officer on leave, and now policeman decamping with AK-47 rifles of fellow policemen have raised serious question marks over the tight security arrangements in place.

If this was not sufficient the policeman who ran away with four rifles also joined the ranks of Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit.

Besides all these daily reports of PAK flag hoisting inside educational institutions, street protests involving school going/college students, singing of National Anthem of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir during cricket matches has become a new fad for students and players in Kashmir valley.

Instead of cracking its whip the security personnel deployed on ground zero are standing mute spectators in the face of all these provocations.

IT IS GOING TO BE HOT SUMMERS AHEAD?

Weather in Kashmir valley may have been attracting a large number of tourists to cool off their heels far away from the hot and humid plain areas of Northern Indian states but security experts are already anticipating ‘hot summer’ season ahead in the absence of any fresh political intervention involving main stakeholders.

Recent sting operations carried out by various News channels to have exposed the Hurriyat Conference leadership vying for the crucial role on the dialogue table to resolve the issue of Kashmir.

While jawans of state police and paramilitary forces are struggling to handle the law and order situation army, on the other hand, is also bracing up for more activity along the line of control.

Meanwhile, to ensure incident free tourist season ahead the army authorities are fully geared up.

They have been conducting cordon and search operations to track down hiding militants in their safe hideouts.

It is no secret the local support for homegrown terrorists has increased manifold and it is, for this reason, the incidents of stone pelting during the cordon and search operations are skyrocketing.

While jawans of state police and paramilitary forces are struggling to handle the law and order situation army, on the other hand, is also bracing up for more activity along the line of control. With more and more radicalised youth joining the ranks of different militant outfits it is becoming difficult for the security forces to contain the graph of militancy.

On the other hand, the terror activities are on the rise in south Kashmir’s districts of Kashmir valley. The law and order situation is expected to deteriorate further ahead of the beginning of the annual Amarnath yatra.

At present, the biggest worry among the security personnel is to prevent local youth from joining ranks of militant outfits and in order to achieve their goal they will have to improve upon their outreach programme and motivate more youth to join the mainstream than drifting away in wrong hands.

NO TALKS WITH SEPARATISTS?

Tough stand taken by the Narendra Modi govt against holding parleys with the separatist has virtually isolated them. They may have been enjoying their clout in their strongholds but generally speaking common Kashmiri people are joining hands against these self-styled separatists.

Earlier BJP National General secretary Ram Madhav had set the agenda of No talks with separatists now the similar sentiments have been echoed by various other popular leaders.

The opposition parties are now trying to come together to expose the failure of the BJP led Modi govt on Kashmir.

Unhappy with this approach adopted by the Government of India opposition parties have now decided to hold a conclave in Kashmir valley. Though the dates of the conclave are yet to be finalised the meeting of opposition leaders minus ruling BJP is expected to take place in the first week of June 2017.

The opposition parties are now trying to come together to expose the failure of the BJP led Modi govt on Kashmir. The opposition parties are also eyeing participation of civil society groups during the conclave to break the ice and prevent fresh flare-up of tensions on the streets of Kashmir valley leading to more chaos and violence.
