[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]T[/dropcap]he landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh is going to get Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), an absolute majority in the Rajya Sabha next year when elections are due in April for 58 vacancies. Out of the 58 vacancies, 10 seats are from Uttar Pradesh (UP) and the BJP is expected to win 8 seats easily. In the rest of the 48 vacancies, 32 vacancies are arising mainly from BJP and NDA allies dominated states like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. From all these states, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is expected win more than 25 seats.
At present is Congress is having 59 MPs and BJP 56 MPs in the total strength of 245 MPs in Rajya Sabha.
The biggest loser will be Congress in April 2018 elections in Rajya Sabha. The party’s current strength of 59 MPs will reduce to around 30. UP’s Members of Parliament (MP)s predominantly from Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will be reduced sharply in Rajya Sabha in the coming years. Presently the SP has 18 MPs and BSP 6 in the Rajya Sabha and most of these MPs can’t come again to Rajya Sabha till 2022 due to BJP’s huge success of grabbing 325 seats in the Assembly election.
In April 2018 vacancies are also arising from Bihar, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal. In January 2018, Congress will lose 3 MPs from Rajya Sabha from Delhi and AAP will get all these seats to make their maiden entry into the Upper House. Congress will only have a gain of 2 MPs from Karnataka.
At present is Congress is having 59 MPs and BJP 56 MPs in the total strength of 245 MPs in Rajya Sabha. Samajwadi Party is having 18 and BSP is having 6 MPs in the Upper House. Other major parties in Rajya Sabha are Trinamool Congress (TMC) with 11, AIADMK with 13 MPs and the DMK with 4 MPs. Janata Dal United (JD(U)) is having 10 MPs and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is having 3 MPs and the tally of both parties will increase in the next year’s election in Rajya Sabha.
BJP’s allies Telugu Desam Party (TDP) are having 6 MPs and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) 3 MPs and their numbers will increase in the April 2018’s election in Rajya Sabha. All these seats were occupied by Congress during the undivided Andhra Pradesh time and the next elections will wipe out the Congress MPs from Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
