Farooq And Mehbooba are together and separate at the same time

The situation in Kashmir is assuming dangerous proportions with each passing moment. On one hand, the seven Kashmiri parties are jointly issuing unsettling and divisive statements. On the other hand, they are indulging in the politics of competitive secessionism. Some of the seven parties, which have formed the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration under the leadership of Farooq Abdullah, include National Conference (NC), People’s Democratic Party, Congress (PDP), Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), CPIM, and Awami National Conference (ANC). Their one-point agenda is the restoration of Article 370 in J&K and full state status to it. They have also clearly given every one to understand that they would not mind seeking support even of the enemy nations to achieve their disintegrate-India objective. The statements being made by National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and People’s Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti only serve to suggest that they are together and separate at the same time.

It’s now known to all that Farooq Abdullah has developed a soft corner for China and he has dismissed the people of Jammu province as no factor in the UT’s political situation. His statements that Kashmiri Muslims would prefer Chinese rule in J&K and people south of the Banihal line (read people of Jammu province) were different and alien should clear many cobwebs of confusion. Farooq Abdullah’s another statement that support of China would help restore Article 370 in J&K and Beijing was the chief determinant in this region further indicates the direction Farooq Abdullah and ilk are moving towards. There is no ambiguity whatsoever in his statements.

What Mehbooba said to cause disaffection in Kashmir or provoke gullible Kashmiri Muslims against New Delhi was one of the two major developments which took place on October 23.

What did Mehbooba say?

That Farooq And Mehbooba are together and separate at the same time could be seen from what PDP chief Mufti on October 23 said in Srinagar while addressing her first-ever press conference after her release from detention. On the one hand, she vouched for Farooq Abdullah’s China line. On the other, she insulted the national flag. What did Mehbooba say? She, among other things, said: “The Constitution has been desecrated. Dacoits have snatched our J&K flag. They (BJP) say you can buy land in J&K. We’ve abrogated Article 370…Beijing speaks of Article 370 too, calling J&K disputed and asking why it was made UT? Our fight is not confined for the restoration of Article 370, but for the resolution of the Kashmir issue as well. Kashmir issue is an issue and nobody can turn their eye blind towards it…” When asked about the J&K flag placed on the table, she called it “our flag”. She said: “We will take Tricolour in our hand when we get our flag back. We are not going to raise any other flag till the flag of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State is not returned.”

And where did Mehbooba Mufti made these highly provocative and seditious statements? At her official residence and under foolproof official security. That she used the official residence to say what she said speaks for itself. It’s a matter of grave concern.

What Mehbooba said clearly suggested that her approach was quite different from that of Farooq Abdullah. And this suggests that politics of competitive communalism and secessionism will grip Kashmir sooner than later.

People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration

What Mehbooba said to cause disaffection in Kashmir or provoke gullible Kashmiri Muslims against New Delhi was one of the two major developments which took place on October 23. The other development was the decision of the Gupkaris to give the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration a formal structure before unleashing a movement against the Union Government. A report from Srinagar to this effect said that the “alliance will have an executive council consisting of Chairman, Vice-Chairman, General Secretaries, Coordinator, Chief Spokesperson, Spokespersons from individual parties and an office-bearer from each party.” Report also said that “there was broad consensus that “Farooq Abdullah should head the alliance structure, and Mehbooba Mufti and PC leader Sajad Lone should have an important role.” NC vice-president Omar Abdullah could also be part of it. The stated objective behind the move is to “build a platform to mount a political challenge against the constitutional changes of August 5, 2019.”

Around two dozen smaller political groups and social groups have come together to work for and achieve statehood status for Jammu province.

Unstinted support from INC

What these rebellious Gupkaris said was not altogether unexpected. It was very much expected. After all, they had all through played divisive politics, based on religious fanaticism. It’s also abundantly clear that these Gupkaris will not reform themselves. The worst part of the whole situation is the unstinted support these Gupkaris have been getting from the so-called Indian National Congress (INC). It is an integral part of the Gupkar Gang. Indeed, Congress is in self-destruct mode. It is also unlikely to deviate from the path it has been treading, particularly since May 2014, when the nation reduced it to the status of 44. The powers-that-be in the State and at the Centre should have taken all these facts into consideration before ordering the release of autonomists from detention. But it was not to be.

Now that the cats are out of the bags, it’s time for New Delhi to act, act fast and act firmly. Any leniency towards them would bring only disaster. It is hoped that the Narendra Modi Government would initiate the required action to rein in these rebellious Gupkaris. It is a must. India can’t afford to allow these untrustworthy Gupkaris to muddy the Indian waters in this strategic region anymore.

Jammu province adopted “Jammu Declaration”

In the meantime, Jammu province has also witnessed some significant political developments. Around two dozen smaller political groups and social groups have come together to work for and achieve statehood status for Jammu province. In fact, they have adopted a “Jammu Declaration” seeking statehood for Jammu province. Ikkjutt Jammu and Panthers Party are at the forefront. Interestingly, former PDP leader and Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu have also come out with a solution to end regional tensions and animosities between Jammu province and Kashmir. He has said in public print: “Is there the need to revisit the concept of J&K, including Ladakh? While its many distinct and distinctly different parts have shared history, treacherous, and torturous as it was, the geographical expanse of the state was a geopolitical compulsion. The three regions are as disparate and different as there can be; ethnically, linguistically, or in terms of religion and social composition. Shouldn’t the logic of bifurcation be extended to trifurcation of the erstwhile State of J&K? It will make life simpler for everybody. Even as a Union Territory”. What Haseeb Drabu has said is meaningful.

  1. It is high time these beggars are kept in a jail very far flung say in Andaman Nicobar islands so that there will be easily forgotten also. Take all their facilities back and also freeze their bank accounts so that their illegal acts will not be possible too.

  2. Dear Sir/madam, nothing is new and what ever we expected has come in open. Why do they have this kind of guts and courage to challenge our parliament and supreme court and constitution. Let us go very fast on cases against them and take away their illegally obtained properties. Let us confiscate their bank accounts and pass ports under special watch. These people can be easily charged for treason and anti-national activities. Nehru had jailed Sheikh Abdulla for eleven years. Let us make this public and jail Abdullas and Muftis asap. Le t us start settling all the families who have some special connections with the state. Once we have lakhs of Hindustanis settled in jammu Kashmir and make these abdullas and mufitis as leaders of no significance and support, we win. If they openly seek Pakistan and china support, we can take action that includes taking away all their privileges ,pension, security and what not, These will come down to earth.

  3. Long drawn Battle between Being “In and out of House Arrest”, Delhi and Srinagar Warlords are playing Total Hide and Seek Tango to Tire each Other out so they get weary and drop dead sooner or later.

  4. The Gopkaris should be allowed to scream as much as they want, but at the first sign of any violence or questionable support to Pakistan or China the response must be like a ton bricks. 10 more years of Modi Government will see all the Gopkaris catching up on age.
