Batted for dialogue to resolve Kashmir issue but with whom?

Is it time for Governor’s rule in the state?

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]J[/dropcap]ammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Saturday showed disrespect to the martyred policemen by not turning up at the wreath laying ceremony to offer tributes to the brave hearts ambushed by a heavily armed group of Lashkar-e-Toiba militants in South Kashmir district of Anantnag on Friday.

In contrast to this irresponsible behaviour, she went on to rub salt into the wounds of the martyred soldiers by batting for dialogue process to resolve the issue of Kashmir. She, however, failed to clearly spell out the contours of the dialogue process and with whom.

Speaking in the state assembly on day one of the special session of the state legislature in Srinagar Mehbooba Mufti counted mistakes committed by previous heads of the governments’ in office and also held them responsible for not allowing democratic institutions to flourish in the state which resulted in Kashmir problem going out of hands.

Even Deputy Chief Minister Prof Nirmal Singh, from the BJP, failed to make it to the venue of the wreath laying ceremony.

In their absence Chief Secretary BB Vyas, DGP Dr SP Vaid, the top brass of the state police and senior bureaucrats showed up to pay solemn tributes to the policemen.

The Army chief said that some parts of South Kashmir are in trouble and necessary counter-action is being taken.

Political observers claimed she did it deliberately to embarrass BJP. Her absence at the wreath laying ceremony immediately shifted the focus back to the alliance govt in partnership with BJP.

Even senior opposition leaders who were present in Srinagar faced reprimand as they too chose to skip the special tribute ceremony.

In her statement in the state assembly on Saturday Mehbooba Mufti said the forces cannot solve the issue and that ‘talks are the only way forward’.

“The Centre and the State must work together to solve the problem”, she added.

Her comments came hours after Army chief Gen. Bipin Rawat made India’s stand clear on the Kashmir issue. The Army chief said that some parts of South Kashmir are in trouble and necessary counter-action is being taken.

“Some parts of South Kashmir are in trouble, but necessary actions are being taken to ensure the situation there is soon brought under control,” he had said.

“We care about human life and make sure human rights are not violated. We are trained to handle such situations,” he added.

The timing of Mehbooba Mufti’s statement remains suspect. Was it an attempt to demoralise the forces?

Tug of war between BJP – PDP

The alliance partners in Jammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janta Party and Peoples Democratic Party are once again facing rough weather conditions. The recent round of tension aggravated on Saturday when Mehbooba Mufti refused to attend the wreath laying ceremony of martyred policemen.

Her brazen act of defiance was not taken lightly by the BJP high command.

A senior central party leader made clear viewpoint of the BJP through their emissaries that all is not well within the alliance.

BJP leadership is largely unhappy with the conduct of the Chief Minister as she has not only failed to control the law and order situation nor has been able to win hearts and minds of the people.

Now as she is realising that she is failing in her own duty she has started blaming New Delhi for their failure to kick start the dialogue process. A section of BJP leadership is vociferously supporting the idea of severing ties with the PDP and imposing Governor’s rule in the state to restore order and minimise people’s anger against the misrule of the alliance govt.

  1. Jammu Kashmir is being looted by abdullah and mufti families without any interruption with the cooperation of separatists. The local govt whoever it may be ,will not take any action in the interest of nation ,due to their selfish nature.

  2. No jk politicians have guts to go against separatists.whoever comes to power the local parties dance to the tune of separatists. On the other hand one national party which is responsible for the problem wants to fish in the dirty water leaving national interest to winds
