Why Kashmiri Politicians including Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah silent on NIA raids on separatists in Kashmir Valley?

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]E[/dropcap]ver since National Investigation Agency (NIA) launched crackdown against the separatists and their hawala transactions Kashmiri politicians have been maintaining a stoic silence over these raids.

None of the mainstream politicians in Kashmir valley dared to ask separatists what they were doing with huge sums of money received through hawala transactions.

None of the politicians dared question separatists regarding huge sums of money received through hawala transactions

These separatists have also been exposed by the investigating agencies as they have been inching closer to unearthing ‘dubious’ financial transactions and funding pattern of stone pelters.

So far top separatists have been spared but by raiding their close aides the investigating agencies have sent out a loud and clear message that they are also in the pipeline and won’t be able to evade the law of the land.

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]S[/dropcap]ignificantly two most vocal Kashmiri politicians Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and her political rival and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have also been shying away from asking uncomforting questions to these ‘self-styled’ separatists.

Omar, famous for posting comments and reacting to different stories in real time is seen commenting on India’s Foreign policy vis-a-via neighbouring countries is yet to share his view point on these surprise raids.

A keen observer of twitter trends Omar has the uncanny knack of picking up subjects triggering intense debates on social networking sites and often gets trolled by his followers and others who oppose/support his point of view.

Interestingly, the same Omar Abdullah has been maintaining stoic silence over the most talked about story related to raids conducted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to track down the source of funds received by the hardline separatist leaders to fuel unrest in Kashmir valley.

Either he knows nothing about these Hawala transactions or knows too much about these murky financial transactions.

While he ran alliance government with Congress party between 2009-2014 in Jammu and Kashmir he must have been regularly briefed by the senior officers of Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]A[/dropcap]s Chairman of the Unified headquarters he must have sat through closed door briefings where senior Intelligence officers mush have shared exclusive reports and details of hawala transactions.

As Home Minister of the state he must also be privy to modus operandi adopted by separatists and their sympathisers to receive funds from unknown sources of income especially from across the border in Pakistan and the same was channelised to fuel unrest in the Kashmir valley.

When Kashmir witnessed summer unrest in 2010 and more than 100 youth lost their lives in police firing the role of notorious stone pelters had come to light.

Ever since these separatists have come under the scanner they have even earned the wrath of local population whom they claim to represent.

Unfortunately, ever since NIA men swooped down on the palatial houses of second line separatist leaders and few prominent businessmen in the state, both Omar Abdullah and his father Dr Farooq Abdullah has been maintaining eerie silence.

Even the spokespersons of Jammu Kashmir National Conference have been avoiding prowling media persons for their crisp sound bytes and official reactions.

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]I[/dropcap]ronically, when it comes to engaging with these separatist leaders and carrying forward the stalled dialogue process, politicians like Omar Abdullah waste reams of paper in penning down their thoughts in lengthy columns and willingly participate in TV debates before embarking on the peace bandwagon.

Meanwhile, ever since these separatists have come under the scanner they are not only facing tough times but have even earned the wrath of local population whom they claim to represent.

The general response of the common masses especially in their strong bastions in down town areas of Srinagar has also unnerved these separatist leaders. People have abandoned them and moving on with their routine lives. Even shut down calls given by these separatist leaders have evoked mixed response. Barring areas falling under the jurisdiction of seven police stations the entire Kashmir valley went about their daily routine.

Panicky state government agencies anticipating fresh trouble took certain measures to prevent fresh flare up of violence and managed to prevent fresh clashes.

MEHBOOBA PLAYS SMART, CORNERS SEPARATISTS IN THEIR STRONG HOLD

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]E[/dropcap]ven Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has played smart politics to corner these separatists in their own bastion. Instead of rescuing them and avoiding face off with investigating agencies Mehbooba Mufti has been offering her tacit support to the central investigating teams to expose the real face of separatists acting as biggest stumbling block in restoring peace in the Kashmir valley. In the absence of her father Mufti Mohd Sayeed who enjoyed close rapport with some of the senior separatists Mehbooba Mufti is not facing any pressure nor she is under any type of obligation to bail them out to save their skin in old age.

Fragile relationship with BJP is also at the back of her mind while she is cautiously taking baby steps towards eroding credibility of separatist leaders and shoring her own image in the eyes of the local kashmiris.

  1. Now i have got my own doubts over these two politicians. They too may have some financial connections with the separatists. They are silent not to rub the central govt on the wrong side.

  2. Hope the Government takes these measures to their logical conclusion and shut the mouths of those who question the Government’s Kashmir policy.
