Congress should protest against the Gandhis for ruining their party and stealing their assets

Cornered in the National Herald scam, the Congress is preparing for a major protest in front of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) Head Quarters on June 13 when former party chief Rahul Gandhi will appear before the agency. Congress leaders told media on Wednesday that all party MPs, of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and senior leaders have been asked to reach the party headquarters on Akbar Road Monday morning. In a bid to arm-twist the agency and its officers, the party plans to take out a march to the ED office on APJ Abdul Kalam Road in a show of support for Rahul Gandhi when he appears before the agency.

The party has convened a virtual meeting of General Secretaries, in-charges of various states, and state unit presidents on Thursday evening to finalize the protest plans before the ED Head Quarters. Senior party leaders said the state units should also conduct various campaigns in protest against the ED summons in connection with a money laundering case pertaining to the National Herald-AJL deal.

This is not the first time Congress is showing hooliganism when caught in the National Herald case. When Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were summoned by the trial court in the petition by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in December 2015, the party stalled Parliament for more than a week. Meanwhile, Sonia Gandhi who was summoned on June 8, sought more time from the agency citing that she is under treatment by Corona.

In mid-2014, Sonia Gandhi went overboard and even wrote to Delhi High Court Chief Justice expressing her displeasure against changing Judges and delaying considering her appeal against the summons by the trial court. But in December 2015, Delhi High Court also asked the Gandhi family members to appear before the trial court.

Rahul Gandhi had earlier been summoned to appear before the agency on June 2 but he sought a fresh date as he was abroad at the time. After the trial court summons, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy petitioned Income Tax and ED for probing the tax evasions and money laundering the in National Herald case. The Income Tax has found that Sonia and Rahul floated company Young Indian had evaded tax of Rs. 414 crore by dubiously acquiring the assets of Associated Journal worth more than Rs.2000 crores. The Congress leaders lost the case in forums including Delhi High Court and their appeal is presently pending before Supreme Court from November 2019. PGurus in January 2018, published the 105-page findings of Income Tax on Gandhi family members Rs.404 crore worth tax evasion in the National Herald scam.[1]

  1. Obvious is the difference in confidence of one’s innocence. MODI going alone to SIT to face the questioning and Sonia scared to go alone.
