New Kerala Governor assures Chilkur priest

Published by

The newly-appointed Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Monday was interacting after a breakfast-meet hosted by Aham Talks in Hyderabad.

His Excellency had Chief priest of Chilkur Temple, who felicitated him and gifted him a book, “Legislation for temples destruction” written by his father Dr MV Soundararajan.

He also gifted him “Govt rules Hindu Temples” which was the priest’s LLM thesis.

Quoting extensively from scriptures in Sanskrit His Excellency had the audience spellbound on the views expressed by him on various topics ranging from education, religious harmony, intolerance and everything under the Sun.

During the interactive session after the talk which was titled “BUILDING A NEW INDIA,” Rangarajan asked him what would be his reaction to the proposed Endowments legislation by the Kerala Govt. to take Padmanabhaswamy Temple under its control and in case of Sabarimala verdict in favour of Ayyappa. During the hour-long talk, the Governor had mentioned the distinction between Religion and Dharma and both were totally different.

Rangarajan drew his attention to the fact that many Supreme Court judgements had equated Religion to Dharma and had delivered devastating verdicts.

The question on the temples was in this context.

His Excellency was crisp in his reply by requesting for blessings of elders to handle such a situation and also was quick to add that he would respect the Constitution and the concurrent list for religious institutions which needed the Union Governments cabinet nod. For this reply, the audience had spontaneous applause.

Quoting extensively from scriptures in Sanskrit His Excellency had the audience spellbound on the views expressed by him on various topics ranging from education, religious harmony, intolerance and everything under the Sun. The land between the Himalayas in the north and the ocean in the south was BharathVarsha and it is not geography, India was an idea of preserving the sayings of many sages and philosophers who taught renunciation and service to humanity.

On the Kashmir issue, he was even more vociferous, “The whole world knows that terrorists were coming from across the border and running training camps there (Kashmir). We are not dealing with a local problem, but a problem created unfortunately by our hostile neighbour,” he scoffed.

The 68-year-old leader highlighted the importance of Kashmir and called it a crown on the country’s head. “We cannot think of India’s civilization without Kashmir,” Khan added.

C.S. RANGARAJAN

C S Rangarajan belongs to the family of Hereditary Archaka cum Trustees of the famous Sri Chilkur Balaji Venkateswara Swamy Temple of Telangana State. He completed his B.E (Biomedical Engineering) from the Osmania University in June, 1988. He was educated in Agama Sastras as well and passed Archaka Pravesha Exam in 1995. He worked in many Medical Device companies before quitting the Engineering Profession to join in the Service of the Almighty at Chilkur at an age of 35 years. He felt this was a calling of God to help the worshippers at the Temple have a better devotional experience through his service. Most important is the fact that he has been assisting his father Dr M V Soundara Rajan in running the Temples Protection Movement from Chilkur Balaji temple which has set a unique trend against Commercialisation and Politicisation of Temple worship. He assists his father in running the Trilingual Monthly Journal VAK which is the voice of Temples. He has always been striving for revival of ancient temples and has played a key role in sensitizing the devotees on the need to revive the ancient temples in their ancestral villages. He has also taken keen interest in the welfare of the society at large by not only striving for inculcating devotional spirit in the devotees visiting Chilkur temple but also ensuring that the temple plays a role in the upliftment of the weaker sections through such innovative initiatives as motivating devotees to wear handlooms on Saturdays providing support to the weavers’ community. He has also played a major role in the movement to reform the temple system and also highlighting the pitiable state of the Archaka community leading eventually to the amendment of the draconian 30/87 Andra Pradesh Endowments Act . He has been instrumental in development of the Conservation manual for the Endowments Department by REACH Foundation. His LLM Thesis is now being published by the Temples Protection Movement

  • Hope the efforts bring some fruits. Hindi temples have already been massacred by greedy, corrupt and selfish politicians of all parties. There should be s mass movements to liberate these temples from reddys, babus and vijayan and karunanidhi.
