Pinarayi Vijayan, the prime accused in Kerala’s first political murder?

Is Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan a murderer? Witnesses who saw the murder of Vadikkal Ramakrishnan on April 28, 1969, in Kannur district of Kerala say that Pinarayi Vijayan was the person who murdered Ramakrishnan, an RSS activist. “I saw Pinarayi Vijayan murdering Ramakrishnan with an ax,” Umesh who saw the dreaded event told Janam TV, a 24X7 Malayalam news channel on Saturday.

“I still the remember the face of a young Pinarayi Vijayan, who had an ax with him. There were more than 200 CPI-M workers in the procession led by M V Rajagopalan who had come to murder Ramakrishnan,” said Balakrishnan.

This was the first recorded political murder of Kerala. More than 200 RSS workers have been brutally murdered by the CPI-M since then though the mainstream media in the state, dominated by Marxist journalists have blacked out such murders from the public eye.

Umesh said he did not reveal this to anyone till now out of fear. Kannur is full of party villages controlled by the CPI-M. People who dare to dissent with the CPI-M leadership are excommunicated from the villages or brutally murdered as a warning to prospective dissenters.

Balakrishnan, another witness, said he rushed to the spot on hearing the wailing and shrieking by Umesh as well as Ramakrishnan. “What I saw was a most cruel scene. Ramakrishnan had been hacked and he was bleeding profusely. I saw the mob pushing the body of Ramakrishnan into an autorickshaw owned by one Johny,” said Balakrishnan. Both Umesh and Balakrishnan were colleagues of Ramakrishnan, a tailor by profession.

Though the RSS has been accusing Pinarayi Vijayan for his direct involvement in the murder, the powers that be ensured that no witnesses came out in the open to testify about his involvement. Moreover, Kerala was under Marxist rule during the murder of Ramakrishnan. The then Chief Minister E M S Namboodirippadu had worked overtime to make Pinarayi Vijayan exonerated from the case.

The Kannur Police had a filed a FIR naming Pinaryi Vijayan and M V Rajagopalan as the prime accused in the case. Rajagopalan was the father-in-law of Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, the present State Secretary of the CPI-M. “It was Rajagopalan who led the procession of more than 200 persons who had gathered to murder Ramakrishnan,” said Balakrishnan.

Rajagopalan has ben an accused in many murders which took place in Kannur district and had been sentenced by the lower court in many instances but came out thanks to the appeals filed by him and the CPI-M in the higher courts.

J Nandakumar, senior RSS leader from Kerala had said that Pinarayi Vijayan, the then leader of the Kerala Socialist Youth Federation, the pre-cursor to the DYFI, the youth wing of the CPI-M, had been included as the first accused in the murder of Vadikkal Ramakrishnan. “Because of lack of evidence the case could not be pursued to its logical conclusion and Vijayan was acquitted ,” Nandakumar had said.

It is interesting to note that the revelation by Umesh and Balakrishnan came immediately after the Jana Raksha Yaatra led by Kummanam Rajasekharan was flagged off by Amit Shah, national president of the party at Kasaradod. Though the main stream media has been blacking out the Jana Raksha Yaatra, the walkathon by Rajasekharan is getting a warm reception throughout the State.

Neither Pinarayi Vijayan nor the CPI-M has reacted to the shocking revelation made by Abilash, the Kannur Bureau Chief of Janam TV. Umesh and Balakrishnan are under the protection provided by Sangh lest they would be attacked by the CPI-M executioners in the district.

Meanwhile, Leela, widow of Ramakrishnan, demanded a thorough reinvestigation into the case in the backdrop of the revelations made by Umesh and Balakrishnan. It was within months of their marriage that Ramakrishnan was murdered by the CPI-M gang led by Pinarayi Vijayan, said Leela. “No woman should face such dreadful experience. I was widowed within months of my marriage,” said Leela while speaking about the disclosures by the eye-witnesses.
