Modi assured all possible support and smooth approval process for vaccine candidates which are currently under trial phase

With the Covid pandemic raging across many parts of Indian cities like Capital Delhi, Mumbai and Lucknow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged vaccine manufacturers to continuously scale up the production in the shortest possible time to vaccinate more and more people. Appreciating the efforts of vaccine manufacturers for their achievements and professionalism, Modi said that the biggest strengths of our vaccine industry are its ‘Samarthya, Sansadhan and Seva Bhaav’, and these are what make them a vaccine leader in the world.

Noting the fact that vaccines manufactured here are the cheapest, PM Modi said India the world’s largest vaccine programme is underway in India and reiterated them to gear up for May 1, when vaccination is opening up for people above 18 years.

A few days ago India has allowed vaccines from the US and Europe to gear up the vaccination in the county of 135 crore population.

“PM Modi remarked that throughout this process of developing and manufacturing vaccines, the country has constantly worked with the spirit of public-private partnership under the ‘Mission Covid Suraksha’, and created an end-to-end vaccine development ecosystem. The Government ensured that all the vaccine manufacturers not only get all possible help and logistic support, but also the process of vaccine approval is speedy and scientific, said the Prime Minister. He also assured all possible support and smooth approval process for the vaccine candidates which are currently under trial phase.

“The Prime Minister said the health infrastructure of our private sector has played a big role in the country’s fight against COVID-19 and in the coming days, the private sector will play an even more active role in the vaccination drive. This will require better coordination between hospitals and industry,” said PMO said in a statement.

A few days ago India has allowed vaccines from the US and Europe to gear up the vaccination in the county of 135 crore population. On Monday India has announced the vaccination of people above 18 years of age. At present, 127 Million people are given vaccines and the full two doses were administered to 17.5 million only. 17.5 million comes only around 1.3% of the population of India with 135 crore people.

Later in the evening, addressing the nation through television, the Prime Minister urged people to adhere to strict Covid Appropriate Behavior and allayed fears on imposition of further imposition of lockdown in the country. “No question of imposing lockdown arises,” said Modi while urging the youngsters to be a vigil at home checking the elder generation and monitor them from violating Covid guidelines.

The vaccine manufacturers thanked the Prime Minister for the Government’s decision of allowing vaccination for everyone above the age of 18 and various steps taken to give more incentives and flexibility. They also appreciated the Prime Minister’s leadership for the support they have received from the Government of India throughout the process of vaccine development and production. They also discussed their plans to ramp up production, upcoming vaccine candidates and research on the new variants.

On Monday Prime Minister convened a meeting with pharmaceutical company heads and top doctors in the country. He urged the pharma companies to engage in more research in tackling the Covid pandemic and appealed to doctors to tell people to vaccinate as early as possible[1].
