Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced 21 days (up to April 15) complete lockdown in India to prevent the Coronavirus pandemic. In his address to the nation, he said that all essential items will be available and that there is no need to panic, asking people to stay inside their homes. Soon after Prime Minister’s speech, the Union Home Ministry issued a six-page guideline on how to deal with the situation during the 21 days lockdown. The States and District Magistrates are empowered to ensure the running of the essential commodities shops on specific timings.

Modi with folded hands urged the public to break the chain of Covid-19 to prevent the pandemic. He also announced Rs.15,000 crores (Two Billion Dollars) worth health package to the deal the situation. The detailed speech of the Prime Minister is reproduced at the end of this article.

The Union Home Ministry’s Guidelines said that apart from Essential Commodities (Grocery, Food delivery, Vegetables, Fruits, and Medicines) shops, Media, Banks and ATM, and Fuel Stations will be open throughout the lockdown days. The States and local administration will decide on the working timings of the shops engaged in the essential commodities. Electricity, Water, Sanitation and Communication Departments and agencies and their service providers in this regard are exempted from the lockdown days of 21 days starting from March 25 to April 15.

The detailed six-page Guidelines issued by the Union Home Ministry is also published below. The cases will be registered against those violating the lockdown rules.
