Would they have remained silent if the murdered victim had belonged to any other community?

The state government’s apathy was in full display when it ignored multiple requests made by numerous organizations to bear the priest’s treatment cost

In a gruesome and barbaric attack, a local imam attacked Devunoor Satyanarayana Sharma, a 68-year-old priest at the Sai Baba temple near Pochamma Maidan Junction in Warangal District. He later succumbed to his injuries on 1 November 2018 at NIMS hospital in Hyderabad after being assaulted by local imam Sayeed Sadhiq Hussain.

On 26 October 2018, the priest performed the sacred ‘Kakad Harathi’ with the loudspeaker turned on. Taking strong objection to the pooja being played on the loudspeaker, the local Imam wanted the priest to shut it down. Irked by the priest’s refusal, the Imam assaulted the elderly priest. The priest sustained severe injuries to his ribs and bleeding from the liver before the locals intervened and stopped Imam Sadhiq.

The ‘Awardwapsi’ brigade consisting of liberals, academics, intellectuals and artists, returned their awards in protest of the alleged lynching that took place in Dadri, have not spoken a word on this issue.

The state government’s apathy was in full display when it ignored multiple requests made by numerous organizations to bear the priest’s treatment cost. The civil society, several Hindu outfits and BJP leaders staged a protest Pochamma Maidan junction condemning the brutal attack and the state government’s failure to protect the Hindu priest.

Interestingly, the vernacular media which covered and sensationalized the ‘alleged Akhlaq lynching’ story, with OB vans stationed in Dadri (1550 kms from Hyderabad) and made it “breaking news” for several months, and thereby kept it alive in public memory, downplayed an incident of violence that happened in Warangal, a town that is only 150 kilometers away from their studios located in Hyderabad.

The ‘Awardwapsi’ brigade consisting of liberals, academics, intellectuals and artists, returned their awards in protest of the alleged lynching that took place in Dadri, have not spoken a word on this issue. Would they have remained silent if the murdered victim had belonged to any other community? The answer is obvious, their election campaigning would have begun in full swing, with Warangal becoming a hotspot for visits from high profile personalities.

  1. HAD A HINDU HAD DONE THIS TO A MUSSALMAN THE ENGLISH MAFIA MEDIA WOULD HAVE CARRIED THE NEWS FOR DAYS REPORTING EVERY ASPECT OF IT

INDIA NEEDS A DICTATORSHIP FOR 20 YEARS

  2. Sir. Today I was reading, INDIA TODAY Coverage in the net on the incident. In para 2 of the said coverage, t was written, “the Imam spoke/requested Pujari to stop the mujsic/lower the voice to which Pujari refused and as a result the Imam assaulted the Pujari resulting in Pujari being hospitalised etc.”

In other words, INDIA Today write up was as it, INDIA TODAY was a witness to the event. It chose to concot a mis-leading web to say, it was Pujari who was at fault. (the assailant – very holy, pious – as he was described as IMAM). The assailant was not even described as a 25-year old assailant who used his brute power to hit a 70 year old – frail person (as the photographs show).

A murder (religious biogoted murder was being described as assault leading to hospitalisation). The article does not question – “who gave the Imam or assailant gave the authority” to hit a 70 year old person – without filing a complaint etc.

I wish PGurs legal team pull up INDIA TODAY and expose its editorial team and issue an appeal to boycott (INDIA TODAY) by all sensible Indians. This was indeed shocking reporting from INDIA TODAYl

It leaves many deeply sad at the state of helplessness of law abiding in the hands of violence bigoted religious Imams..

  3. If rule of law and Government are going to be non-active for such acts, only people will take on their own to revenge for such acts. There is no point in preaching rule of law etc for one side.
