• I have serious doubts about the research of Prof Abhijit and his wife Esther's based on RCT, because a lot of research is dishonest, done with the conclusion as the objective, based on one's own ideological predisposition.

  But using vituperative language to malign them is not only bad, in principle, but also counter-productive. It will project opponents of left ideology in very poor light. Opponents should conduct similar RCT trials on the same topics and disprove Prof Abhijit, Esther and their clan.

  For example, discounting the benefits of micro-financing as done by them shows their patently hollow claims. All that is required to expose them is just to do a few RCTs of micro-financing in a few countries, India to start with. It's obvious to everyone with common sense that such a series of experiments will expose the hollowness of the claims of esteemed Nobel laureates Abhijit and Esther.

  Otherwise, over time, opponents of Abhijit and Esther will stand discredited, which will be unfortunate.

• How do you permit such highly objectionable, provocative and derogatory comments ? To make such vituperative attacks only because the research findings are against popularly held views and also anti establishment only smacks of ignorance and intolerance. There are more saner and forceful ways of expressing dissent. We should be proud of one of our economists being awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize instead of denigrating.
