Despite Islamic invasion, we are a Hindu Majority
Despite Islamic invasion, we are a Hindu Majority

“IF THE ISLAMIC INVADERS WERE SO DESPOTIC THEN HOW ARE WE STILL A HINDU MAJORITY?”

A look back in time to read the history of the Indian resistance to the Islamic invaders from the time of the earliest invasions of the Arabs till the annexations of the Maratha Confederacy and the Sikh Empire. Most of this is not covered in the Left-written history books that you may have read at school.

Even before the Islamic invasions of India, India has been invaded several times by various tribes and kingdoms – the Greeks, the Romans, the Sakas, the Kushans, the Huns and even the pre-Islamic Turks. The only difference is that these groups ended up assimilating in India and were embraced by the natives while the Islamic invaders could not. Nothing else apart from the doctrines of Islamic stopped the latter invaders who came from Central Asia from truly embracing Dharmic values. This lack of assimilation along with the intolerant doctrines of their new religion was alone responsible for the intolerance displayed by the Turkic invaders towards the traditions and culture of the native Hindus.

In the last years of his life, Prophet Muhammad explicitly permitted the Muslims to wage war to spread the faith.

Renowned Nobel Laureate V.S Naipaul had this to say on Islam – “It (Islam) has had a calamitous effect on converted peoples. To be converted you have to destroy your past, destroy your history. You have to stamp on it, you have to say ‘my ancestral culture does not exist, it doesn’t matter’.”

Naipaul’s words may seem harsh; however a proper study of the doctrines of Islam found in the Quran and the Hadiths, scrutiny of the life of Muhammad found in various biographies (Sira) and an understanding of the basic history of the spread of Islam actually end up proving him right.

In the last years of his life, Prophet Muhammad explicitly permitted the Muslims to wage war to spread the faith, abrogating (Naskh), his earlier orders to fight only ‘defensive wars’. As a result of this new command, the Arabs, who had seldom invaded any other land before the birth of Islam, suddenly went out to conquer lands such as Israel, Syria, Egypt, and Persia in the years following Muhammad’s death. A caliphate (Rashiduns) was formed, with Abu-Bakr, the father-in-law of Muhammad, as the first caliph.

The Arabs, now motivated by religious zeal, became the masters of large parts of North Africa and Central Asia in no time at all, due to the conquests of the Rashiduns. The successors of the Rashiduns – The Umayyad invaded Europe and managed to even annex Spain. However, they were later defeated by a Christian confederacy led by Charles Martel at the famous Battle of Tours (732 CE).

THE BATTLE OF TOURS

This defeat at Tours effectively ended the Caliphate’s plan of conquering Europe although they managed to hold on to Spain for several centuries. Spain was eventually re-conquered by the neighboring Christian kingdoms (Reconquista).

At the same time, the Umayyads had also marched eastwards, managing to annex lands as far as Sind but were repelled by several Indian kings when they tried to invade North India.
