Renaming Sardar Patel Stadium as Narendra Modi Stadium – Modi joins the league of Nehru-Gandhi family naming spree and Mayawati’s self-statues

Renaming a stadium after self while still alive goes against the grain of humility as taught in Sanatana Dharma

Sardar Patel Stadium renamed

On Monday, the Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium in Motera got renamed after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a Swayamsevak from the RSS (Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh). Like the Nehru-Gandhi family naming any and every institution after their names and the Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati establishing her statues across Uttar Pradesh when she was Chief Minister, Prime Minister Narendra Modi seems to have also fallen into this narcissism trap or the I, Me, Myself thought process.

Don’t listen to cheerleaders!

Some Modi cheerleaders are coming out with the statistics of Nehru-Indira-Rajiv named institutions to justify the renaming of Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera to Narendra Modi Stadium by the President of India. This is just defending an indefensible act and sheer sycophancy which was not expected from a person belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP got accepted in India due to people’s anger towards the Congress party and its sycophancy to the Nehru-Gandhi family. Et tu Modi?

BJP was always at the forefront of the Nehru-Gandhi family’s naming spree of institutions and Mayawati’s self-statue making syndrome.

Politicians, stay out of Cricket

Many still can’t digest why Narendra Modi agreed to this decision of the Gujarat Cricket Association. Has power changed his mindset? It must be interesting to note that Modi’s lieutenant Home Minister Amit Shah was seen rejoicing at this name changing of the stadium. Amit Shah’s weakness for cricket administration and installing his son Jay Shah at the money-spinning Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has its share of controversy. His son’s sudden elevation as BCCI Secretary is an abuse of power and goes to prove my point about the horrible nexus that exists between Bollywood, Cricket and Politicians [1]. When looked at together, these incidents indicate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi appears to have fallen fully into the coterie of the cheerleading gang. It is unfortunate to see the fall of a man who got the mandate of the people from mid-2014 for a “New India” fall for sycophants’ tripe.

Going against the RSS’s ideology

BJP was always at the forefront of the Nehru-Gandhi family’s naming spree of institutions and Mayawati’s self-statue making syndrome. Power corrupts and absolute power makes corrupts absolutely. In a nutshell, this incident of naming a stadium in the name of Narendra Modi has totally dented the image of BJP, which originates from the RSS which strongly advocates against such sheer nonsense.

It is also a slap on Sardar Patel and his achievements in uniting 556 small, medium, and large fiefdoms into a single voice that is India now. Hopefully, this change in mindset has not come from so many ex-Congressis that claims BJP as their home.

  1. Was an attempt made to find out if Mr Modi has a hand in it? What are the details that were dug up? In the absence thereof this a petty blog

  2. Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Modi Shah duo is no exception to this maxim. They are drunk with power. Defending their follies based on precedents set by Congress will be the beginning of their end.

They need to read the poem Ozymandias by P B Shelly

I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
    The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
    My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

  3. Iyer sir, I’m also disappointed, but present-day politics demands all these, otherwise, hypocrisy will rule the situation, see how the opposition took a U-turn in the farm bills and other developmental programmes, we’ve seen the Vajpayee defeat after giving a good governance public voted him out for what? and 10 years of corrupt governance, Modi got 25 MP seats from Gujarat very key to his and BJPs survival + Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and UP another 100 (bare minimum), so the worst condition BJP/MODI will keep this figure in mind and acting accordingly

  4. Seriously, don’t you think this is a bit of an over reaction? Yes, it does seem a bit of a let down. But then, how do you assume that Modi had any hand in it. Perhaps the news was as sudden to him as to the rest of us. I hear that neither the State nor the Central Govt has contributed any funds to it and that it is an autonomous body. (To be cross checked). But yes, it gives his opposition a straw to beat him with, as they are really scrapping the bottom of the barrel nowadays for such excuses.

  5. Modi should have never accepted this. Its completely wrong!! I think Modi will not let the stadium named after him, but the damage is done. Even if the name is changed the credit of that will go to critics and no one will accept that Modi refused. Who planned this absurdity?

  6. My understanding is that the entire sports complex which is not only this cricket ground but having the facility for all sports and olympic training is still in the name of sri vallabhai patel. In that campus cricket stadium is alone named in modiji’ s name. Is this correct?

    • Yes, you are correct. The sports complex is still named after Patel and only the stadium (the Motera stadium) was renamed. Further, the stadium belongs to the Gujarat Cricket Association and is an independent non Government body. Of course, a pavilion in Chennai can be renamed after an ex CM (Annadurai) who played a pioneering role in Dividing India. But to name a stadium after a three time CM and two time PM and arguably the most charismatic leader in modern India – heck that is sycophancy, CongI culture, anti RSS. Only the mandatory “brahmanical” is missing. Let us wait till tomorrow – there is still time.

Oh and before I forget, I am sure the Modi-Shah duo connived to doctor the pitch and give India a most undeserved victory.

      Isvara wept.

p.s. I am no Modi fan.

  7. It is not in our culture to praise thyself. Credit is given to a person for his accomplishments but one does not credit himself for being a great person.

  8. Surprised that Dr Swamy’s friend speaks like this. Modiji was responsible for all developments in Gujarat and made it top most state in India and taking it further to the world as one of the best states in INDIA. It the wishes of the people of the state to show their gratitude to him. It is easy for some people to sit in studious 24/7 and comment as they feel. IT is like dogs barking at the moon. Nothing will tarnish his image. People of Gujarat are happy .

    • ” People of Gujarat are happy”
      For sure.
They may like to rename Gujarat
      as Mosharat.
Good luck to you as one of the future Mosharatis.

  9. Modi is the only Gujarati who reached to PM post after done & doing great works, as even Patel failed to become PM, so state should have given some choices to celebrate her hero’s glory. Don’t consider Modi as a God , he is a simple human so leave him to enjoy his achievements too.

  10. Akshaychander should make a cartoon

The Rs.2000 crore Patel statue then and now with head changed and long flowing beard

Now we can witness the monumental fraud

    This is the new Ambadania.

Sardar after all is a Sikh term. Not fitting in the light of recent farmer happenings. Can’t have a Gujju with Sardar affixed in front.

  11. this is a very good response from Modi ji. they were trying to spoil the chai yoga image of India so he have them a befitting reply. it’s not about his ego or principles, they are trying to use rihana fame to hide their illogical arguments for the farm bill. this was a well thought move. Fame is important.
