Sabarimala: Kerala Police targets social Media users

Published by

CPM taking help from Kerala Police to tackle the issues is nothing new, they have done it before however, this time around the target is social media users

Kerala Police is vigilant about the issue of Sabarimala, they seem to be working for the political party – CPM rather than for the welfare for the citizen. They were not satisfied by troubling and ill-treating the devotees. Their new target is supporters of Sabarimala on Social Media. Kerala Police has started sending notices to hundreds of social media users demanding explanations for their tweets and posts.

The brutality of Kerala police against the devotees is inhuman. They have done it all to prevent the devotees entering Sabarimala temple – right from hurting the devotees to throwing away the Irumady (the sacred offering to a deity). PGurus had recently published the article ‘on the brutality of the police on devotees’ where it says they have blocked the basic amenities at the temple.

Kerala is turned into a battlefield and anyone following the tradition is ill-treated or sent a notice. Whosoever criticizes the Kerala Government. The notices are not only sent to the social media user in the State but also outside the state.

Here is the copy of the notice –

We are determined to save Sabarimala come what may. He is also an active participant in starting Ayyappa Nama Japa campaign in Bengaluru.

Below is the conversation with Mr Suresh N, a techie who is qualified in criminal law, who received the notice from Kerala police:

He says, on 19th November 2018, he had tweeted about the misconduct of the IPS officer Pratheesh Kumar who ripped opened Rudraksha Mala and stepped over the Irumudi (the sacred offering to a deity). In another tweet, Suresh had pointed out that the officer lacks the knowledge about the local tradition.

He explains further that “My intention was to highlight that his acts were due to his ignorance of the local tradition and I was, in fact, questioning the authorities who deputed him at such a sensitive place at this charged moment”.  It is this tweet which grabbed the attention of Kerala Police and he received the Notice. The notice received from Malappuram Police station via Whatsapp which says, there are reasonable grounds to question him in regard to an FIR filed under IPC sections 153, 189, 506 (1) and KP act-2001 sections 117(e) and 120(o)”[1].

Mr Suresh says, being a Student of the law, “I can say for sure that questioning the attitude of the police is not an offence”. We are determined to save Sabarimala come what may. He is also an active participant in starting Ayyappa Nama Japa campaign in Bengaluru.

It is not the first time CPM is using Police to tackle the issues. They have done it in the past too and the only difference this time around is they are targeting the social media users with the help of the police force.

  • A serious question that arises how come atheists are allowed to circumvent the psyche of believers in Lord Ayyappa. Indian Communists never treated Hinduism fairly. We don't expect anything different either.
