Winter session begins on November 16th
[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]T[/dropcap]he Winter Session of the Indian Parliament is going to start on November 16 and the Opposition parties are busy building an arsenal and polishing their weapons in the form of creation of protests on the missing Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Najeeb and the suicide of a retired army man Ram Kishan Grewal. The Modi bashing media segment has gone into overdrive and are doing everything possible to aggravate the situation. The latest news from Lutyens Delhi is that these are all ancillary protests and the big one called as “Sahara Diaries” is in store is waiting to hit the Government during the Winter Session.
The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Najeeb, who is a die hard ultra Left student wing worker is a donation from the Left wing to Congress. Najeeb, who left the JNU campus after slapping a supporter of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) is caught on CCTV cameras as going alone on the missing day, three weeks back. Police are finding it difficult to trace him as all his known mobile phones are switched off. It is anybody’s guess that during Parliament Session, the Opposition will be making full throated allegations on how students’ lives are in danger in campuses.
Congress releasing the phone call tapes between the late Grewal and his son is a total mystery! Rahul Gandhi is on a dead body tourism like Arvind Kejriwal. Meanwhile Lutyens media is trying to bake controversies against arch rival Minister General V K Singh, who is still paying the price for allegedly blocking several defence commissions to many including certain editors.
Sahara Diaries

In November 2014, Income Tax (IT)’s Delhi Unit barges into jailed Sahara head Subrato Roy’s secretary’s office in Ghaziabad. Let us set aside the fact for the moment that Ghaziabad is part of Uttar Pradesh and does not fall under Delhi’s jurisdiction. The raid was controlled by the then top IT official K V Chowdhary, who is now the Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC), claiming that they were acting on a tip off. The IT sleuths found Rs. 125 crores ($18.7 million) in cash and certain papers, notebooks which named many VVIPS, claiming to have taken money from Sahara head Roy. Later the IT department found that the cash of Rs.125 crores ($18.7 million) was through genuine bank transactions. Those days Roy was paying instalments to the Supreme Court.
The so called “Sahara Diaries” were handed over by the sleuths to their top bosses.
The notebooks, loose sheets now titled as Sahara Diaries had the names of Who’s Who in India, literally naming just about every person including those holding Constitutional posts. Seeing the names of many VVIPs in India, Income Tax sleuths considered that the tip off was nothing but an attempt to fool them and placing loose sheets notebooks with VVIP names by the depressed and jailed Sahara chief Subrata Roy. Many of the leading lights from the three pillars of the government were named in the loose notes as recipient of crores of rupees from Roy.
The so called “Sahara Diaries” were handed over by the sleuths to their top bosses. That implies that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley must have knowledge about the entire incident as it happened in November 2014. It is now two years and no action has been taken.
Twist in the tale
[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]H[/dropcap]ere comes the twist in the tale – Noted lawyer Prashant Bhushan last week submitted a complaint to the CVC Chowdhary for seeking action. He also attached the old Birla Diaries. Aditya Birla’s office was raided by UPA regime during Coal Scam which found Rs.25 crores ($3.74 million) in cash and several payoff details. Being a stakeholder in India Today Group and nephew of media baroness and Hindustan Times owner Shobhana Bhartia, Mainstream Media (MSM) always tends to maintain silence on Aditya Birla. Cases of CBI against him in Coal Scam are now in cold storage. Anyway both Birla and Sahara were raided under the supervision of the then IT top official Chowdhary, the current CVC.
With the Sahara Diaries naming VVIPs from all fields including many in the media, it is only a matter of time before someone lets the cat out of the bag.
Here the million dollar question is how the Sahara Diaries caught by Income Tax sleuths during NDA regime reached Prashant Bhushan’s hands. Another question is, how such papers were included and considered as proof and kept in records by the IT Headquarters in Delhi. Is the Opposition using Prashant Bhushan’s shoulders to fire at the government? It is further speculated that he will move the Supreme Court seeking a probe. Before that expect some leaks in favourite media by Bhushan. Rumored talks between a Left leaning Economic Magazine Editor and Prashant Bhushan on whether to publish first or file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) first are doing the rounds. Bhushan is also thinking of holding a press conference to distribute these Sahara-Birla Diaries before filing a PIL in the Supreme Court.
With the Sahara Diaries naming VVIPs from all fields including many in the media, it is only a matter of time before someone lets the cat out of the bag. Clearly these diary entries have no legal value after Supreme Court’s Jain Hawala verdict. But it can create a huge political slugfest during the Winter Session.
All this begs the question, as to how the Income Tax seized papers landed on Prashant Bhushan’s desk. Is there a Trojan horse in the Narendra Modi Government?
