Scrapping Article 370 - RSS' Role Was Decisive

What we are now seeing is an RSS which is in a hurry to further the patriotic agenda.

Three important events have taken place in contemporary India — Independence in 1947, Vivisection of Pakistan in 1971 and the scrapping of Articles 370 and 35A along with the declaration of Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh as Union territories. The historic decisions, preceded by large scale deployment of 30,000 additional troops in Kashmir, seemed rather abrupt. But, the fact is that the Rashtriya Swayasevak Sangh under the visionary leadership of Mohan Bhagwat.

From the day Modi was sworn in as the PM in 2014, the RSS was clear in its mind that two commitments made to the people have to be fulfilled at any cost – Scrapping of Article 370 and 35 A and building of the Ram temple at Ayodhya. In the past five years, the promise visi-a-vis Article 370 and 35 A could not be fulfilled because of the lack of majority in the Rajya Sabha and uncertainty about Pakistan’s response.

The induction of Amit Shah as a home minister by the RSS was a masterstroke. A tough-talking man known for his guts and no-nonsense approach was just the person the RSS was looking for.

But, the floor management in Parliament by the BJP is so good that even without the majority in the Rajya Sabha the BJP under Modi 2.0 has been able to push through legislation with finesse. The passing of the RTI amendment bill is a case in point.

The other enabling factor is the emergence of a novice PM in Islamabad in the persona of a much-married cricketer called Imran Khan. Under his inept leadership, Pakistan is sinking into a bottomless abyss. The economy is in very bad shape with the people acutely unhappy over the steep rise in prices of roti and naan. The army and its Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) simply doesn’t know what to do with a PM who goes to Washington DC and candidly confesses about the presence of 40,000 terrorists on Pak soil. Also, the Baloch and Pashtun revolts are gaining momentum. There is also a growing distrust of China and its ill-fated CPEC project.

The National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval’s assessment is that Pakistan will not dare embark on a misadventure and even if it does it can be neutralized in a jiffy. Balakot has clearly proved that Pakistan can’t do much despite having a nuclear arsenal. Besides Israel’s handling of the Palestine question was an inspiration. Doval enjoys an excellent equation with the RSS in general and Bhagwatji in particular and this helped the majority in acting with decisiveness on Kashmir.

The induction of Amit Shah as a home minister by the RSS was a masterstroke. A tough-talking man known for his guts and no-nonsense approach was just the person the RSS was looking for.

Thus, without much ado, the RSS has got J & K integrated with the rest of the Union like never before.

Next on its agenda is the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. CJI Gogoi’s decision to go in for day to day hearing of the case has been welcomed by Bhayyu Joshi of the RSS. Law and facts are unmistakably on the side of the Hindus. That’s why Bhagwat & Co are confident in building the temple expeditiously. What we are now seeing is an RSS which is in a hurry to further the patriotic agenda. It has been said of the 94-year-old behemoth that it prefers to climb the steps when an elevator is available. It appears not anymore.

  1. Not sure why the comments here are now way. We need to congratulate the PM and HM who did not disappoint people and RSS. RSS is definitely a sharp and visionary organization and now matured to take all sections irrespective of cast are religion. The are point blank in its opinion that all the muslims or Christians are the sun of the soil. If not they not to be called as Hindus but they are the son of this soil. So, no question of allowing them break away. At the same time, I hope the Government will do everything to make all sections that they are not divisive but decisive.
