There is an old adage about going into litigation on property disputes and ending up losing the property to your own lawyer –
Union Minister Smriti Irani has also pointed out that Piyoosh Goyal in 2013 was facing cases by CBI for bribing bank officials.
“Lawyers Are”: A learned gentleman who rescues your estate from your enemies and keeps it himself.
— Henry Brougham
Supreme Court documents show that Kapil Sibal was the advocate of Piyoosh Goyal’s firm World Window Infrastructure Private Limited against Central Warehousing Corporation. The Order dated September 18, 2017, clearly shows that Sibal was the lead advocate of the Goyal’s firm engaged in import and logistics operations and having a commercial dispute with Central Warehousing Corporation.
This firm is also part of Goyal’s World Window Impex Private Limited and his firms are having several business deals with controversial South African businessmen, the Gupta brothers. These brothers are now caught up with several allegations and financial dealing with former President Jacob Zuma’s family. PGurus has already reported about the clout of these Gupta brothers in South African administration and lobbying for Jet Airways and how they managed it during Zuma’s visit to India in June 2010.
OPINDIA website has reported in detail about Sibal’s link with Piyoosh Goyal and his link with Gupta brothers quoting South African newspapers.
Union Minister Smriti Irani has also pointed out that Piyoosh Goyal in 2013 was facing cases by CBI for bribing bank officials. Senior SBI officials and Bank of Baroda officers were also caught by CBI in this case. Those days Sibal was a powerful Minister in the UPA-2 Government handling Law, Telecom and Information Technology.
The controversy about Sibal is that he, in February 2017, along with his wife fully acquired one company of Piyoosh Goyal titled Grande Castello Private Limited for a few lakhs and benefitted by getting the company’s land in Delhi worth Rs.89 crores. This is a bumper deal for Sibal and he can argue that it was a private business between him and his client Piyoosh Goyal. But getting Rs.89 crores worth land in Delhi by purchasing a company for few lakhs attracts a typical Income Tax case. Other clients of Sibal such as Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi’s firm Young Indian in National Herald case are now fined by Income Tax for Rs.249.15 crores for hushing up the actual assets and revenue from the covertly acquired properties across India.
With the Supreme Court Order showing that Sibal was Piyoosh Goyal-led firm’s advocate, it is very certain that Sibal knew all details of his client. No sensible client will lie to the Advocate, especially an extraordinarily intelligent person like Sibal. Now Sibal is telling that he will sue OPINDIA website for revealing his bonanza of getting Rs.89 crores worth land in Delhi by purchasing a company for few lakhs. The same Sibal argues in Court for The Wire website that journalists should have right to ask questions. Here OPINDIA also asked questions to Sibal. But Sibal got annoyed when the questions were personal, while he was rejoicing over The Wire story on Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah’s business.
Being a self-proclaimed Liberal and supporter of media freedom, Sibal can come with a full-fledged press conference on the expose of OPINDIA website and allegations raised by Smriti Irani.
The Supreme Court Order dated September 18, 2017 showing Kapil Sibal was the lead Advocate of Piyoosh Goyal’s firm is published below:
