Urges IE to disclose the details of payments to Pak journos

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy issued a legal notice to Indian Express (IE) newspaper for publishing a Pakistani journalist’s article for misquoting and malign him. The legal notice was issued to Indian Express including its owners Viveck Goenka and son Anant Goenka, Editor Raj Kamal Jha, and the Pakistani journalist Khaled Ahmed. In his legal notice through his Advocate Ishkaran Bhandari, Swamy pointed out that Indian Express is paying hefty money to Pakistani journalists who engage in anti-India propaganda and also said that he will petition to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to look into the matter of IE engaging Pakistani journalists and their payments.

Subramanian Swamy said that the Pakistani journalist Khaled Ahmed wrote in Indian Express a lie that Swamy said that Muslims are not equal citizens in India. This fake news was first published in a Canadian based TV known as Vice News, owned by a Pakistani[1]. In this matter, Swamy had already filed a defamation case against a United Nations official[2]. Swamy recently said that he is also sending a legal notice to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for misquoting on the same matter.

Blaming Indian Express for publishing continuously articles of Pakistani journalists, Swamy said that since 2009, Indian Express has published 358 articles of Pakistani journalists, who always take an anti-India stand.

“…being a news media publishing company of such stature and eminence is expected to observe an even higher degree of due diligence, as compared to an ordinarily prudent person, before publishing such a news article, and it is conspicuous that you – all the above-named addressees – have, utterly, failed in observing even the slightest of due diligence expected before rushing to publish, without any contest, the aforesaid news article. Thereby, you have subjected yourself to a number of penal consequences, in India as well as internationally, wherever it has been published or circulated.

“From a perusal of the aforestated, it is evident that the purported news article is not only patently false, but also bereft of any evidence, and has been issued with an overtly malicious and malafide intent to gravely damage my client’s reputation and general goodwill,” said the legal notice issued by Advocate Ishkaran Bhandari on behalf of Subramanian Swamy.

Blaming Indian Express for publishing continuously articles of Pakistani journalists, Swamy said that since 2009, Indian Express has published 358 articles of Pakistani journalists, who always take an anti-India stand. BJP leader criticised Indian Express for giving a platform to Pakistani journalists (and paying money also) to publish agendas of Pakistan, which is engineering so many terrorist attacks on India. “…being such an eminent news media publishing company, not only have been providing a platform to Pakistani citizens for advancing their pro-Pakistani agenda, while besmirching and tarnishing the image of India and the India Nationalists but also have been paying them to do so… and the worst part, in this whole course of action, is that the sincere and honest ordinary readers of your news article, don’t even get to know that the writers of such sullying articles are none other people who are Pakistani citizens with loyalty to Pakistan,” said Swamy demanding Indian Express to make full disclosure of employment of giving money to Pakistani citizens engaged for the past 10 years. Swamy said that he would approach NIA to have a probe in this regard if Indian Express does not disclose the list of Pakistani journalists engaged. The detailed legal notice of Subramanian Swamy is published below.

Swamy said that he will go ahead with a defamation case if Indian Express does not tender an unconditional apology within 15 days and withdraw the article written by Pakistanis from all platforms. Swamy insisted that Indian Express must publish an article prominently about the withdrawal of the article by a Pakistani journalist. BJP leader also said Indian Express must contribute at least Rs. One Lakh as token amount of apology to any of the Army Relief Fund.

“In the event of your failure to do so, forthwith, and in any case no later than 15 days from the receipt of this notice, my client shall be constrained to initiate appropriate proceedings, both civil, criminal including seeking monetary damages…..,” said the legal notice of Subramanian Swamy.

I also request Dr Swamy to look into other social medias like The Wire,The Quint,The Print,Huffpost India, Firstpost ,Yahoo,Rediff etc publish articles from Pakistani quite of often which I find anti-India oriented. Dr Swamy may kindly do some thing to stop such rampant misuse by Indian Social Media. I have no idea whether some Indian security agencies watch these social medias who are indulging in anti-India activities through dis-information,twisting truth to lies, twisting lies to truth to misguide & defame India.
