Against DMK endorsing genocide of Tamil Brahmins ideology, Dr. Swamy calls for strict action
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday urged Election Commission to initiate action against DMK for some of its leaders calling for “genocide of Brahmins of Tamil Nadu”. Subramanian Swamy said that for this kind of atrocious statements of DMK leaders, the registration of DMK should be cancelled including its election symbol. He also offered to the Election Commission to present and argue his case on this matter.
In his letter, Subramanian Swamy pointed out that since DMK is a registered political party, these kinds of atrocious statements by its leaders are a sheer violation of the Representation of Peoples Act. DMK’s spokesperson R Rajiv Gandhi recently made a speech advocating for the genocide of Brahmins of Tamil Nadu, adding that this was recommended by Dravidian leader E V Ramaswami Nayakar known as Periyar.[1]
“I write this letter to request you to appraise the Chairman and Members of the Election Commission that a Secretary of the DMK Party, which is a registered and recognized party by the Election Commission, has violated the principles laid down by the Commission based on the Representation of Peoples Act. The said Secretary has declared that Brahmins of Tamil Nadu should be subject to ‘genocide’ as was recommended earlier by the Founder of the “Dravidian” movement led by E V Ramaswami Nayakar [known as Periyar to the DMK].
“This threat directly impinges on the fundamental rights of the so-called Brahmin community in Tamil Nadu and could affect also the said Brahmin community’s voting rights out of fear so that they would not go to vote in elections, making it easier for the DMK to get elected in several constituencies.
“On this matter, once the Election Commission takes notice and holds prima facie that this threat of genocide of Brahmins in Tamil Nadu is a violation of the Representation of Peoples Act, and other consequent circulars issued from time to time by the Election Commission, I would happy to adduce legal evidence and arguments, submit necessary documents to prove the case for cancelling the registration of the DMK and withdrawing the Election symbol of the rising sun, allotted to DMK.
This is an urgent matter, and I request the Commission to take appropriate steps to bring the DMK to justice,” said Subramanian Swamy in this complaint to the Election Commission seeking cancellation of DMK’s registration.
