Terming Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin’s request to release killers of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi as “anti-National”, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday urged the President of India to reject the request and not entertain such frivolous requests in future. In an eight-page detailed letter to President Ram Nath Kovind, Swamy pointed out that hanging of the seven accused LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) members was scuttled by Congress President and Rajiv Gandhi’s wife Sonia Gandhi in a dubious way of suggesting mercy to one accused which was used by others to save from hanging and convert to a life sentence. He also accused Rajiv’s daughter Priyanka Vadra of being part of saving the seven LTTE killers, of which six are foreigners.
Swamy pointed out that not only Rajiv Gandhi, 18 other people including several young police personnel also died in the blast orchestrated by LTTE in 1991. Attacking AIADMK, DMK and other Tamil parties for playing dirty games of always demanding the mercy of former Prime Minister’s killers is just anti-National. The BJP leader suggested that the President of India pass an observation saying such frivolous petitions should not be entertained in the future.
Swamy praised Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa for eliminating LTTE and its Chief V. Prabhakaran, pointing out that while India’s Central and State Governments delayed the killers’ hanging execution, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
“What shocked the nation by Rajiv Gandhi’s widow (Sonia Gandhi) asking for clemency for her husband’s assassination conspirators especially,” after the Supreme Court Judgment of May 12, 1999,” said Swamy detailing how Sonia’s clemency petition to one accused Nalini saved all other six accused from hanging. “Her daughter Priyanka Vadra also broke Jail manual rules and visited the convicted prisoner Nalini in jail to sympathise with her. Mrs Vadra has yet to be prosecuted for this offence by the Tamil Nadu Government,” said Swamy. I do hope Dr Swamy’s recommendation is accepted. Various parties have been complicit in supporting LTTE. Hope their and the people’s eyes are opened to the killings orchestrated by LTTE in its heyday. Sinhala politicians, Indian ex PM , Indian soldiers, other Eelam leaders, Mahatiya and his supporters were among the thousands killed by LTTE. This should be told to the people of Tamilnadu so that they realise what LTTE was.
President of India Kovind Ji happens to be a highly educated gentleman and he will reject TN CMs demand. It is shameful that certain pockets in the country still vote for the Congress-I.In Punjab voters prefer the same party in-spite of 1984 genocide on Sikh Community.
