BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking postponement of JEE Main and NEET entrance examinations citing the COVID-19 situation and lack of transport issues across the county. Swamy said that ideally these exams to postpone after Diwali festival and pandemic situation come under control. Swamy also spoke to Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. Swamy said that the Minister was “sympathetic” to his suggestions.
“I write this urgent letter because of my authentic information from every part of India that required infrastructure of the country is not yet in place for students to take NEET/JEE and other competitive exams. in the city of Mumbai for example, there is no public transport and people have to come from in the adjacent areas, often 20 km to 30 km away. There is widespread desperation among the youth since this exam is make-or-break for them and they have to take it fully prepared,” Swamy wrote in his letter to the prime minister.
Swamy in his letter pointed out that the Apex Court has not given any instructions to conduct exams and conducting exams is a policy decision of the Government.
Swamy said holding the exam, in his opinion, “may lead to a large number of suicides across the country of youth.”
Swamy in a series of tweets on Friday said:
Since the number of new COVID 19 cases has soared to 70, 000 per day, it is in the balance of public interest that Education Ministry approach the CJI court at his home and seek an adjournment to November after Deepavali

“Moreover the Supreme Court judgment doesn’t bind the government at all, on whether to now or two weeks later of two months later, the examinations. It is a policy decision of the Government. I request you to please inform the Ministry of Education that these exams can be conducted after Deepavali, said Swamy in his letter to PM Modi.
I spoke to Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and he was sympathetic but naturally, since this would require your concurrence, hence I am writing this urgent letter to you. Please direct the Ministry of Education to delay these examinations till after Deepavali, Swamy added.
The Supreme Court had on Monday dismissed a plea seeking postponement of JEE (Main) April 2020 and NEET-Undergraduate examinations, which are scheduled to be conducted in September, amid a spurt in the number of COVID-19 cases, saying the precious year of students “cannot be wasted” and life has to go on. Swamy in his letter pointed out that the Apex Court has not given any instructions to conduct exams and conducting exams is a policy decision of the Government. He said that the only thing Government ideally has to do is to inform its decision of changing the schedule of the exam, citing COVID-19 situation to the Court.

How can conduct exams when public transports are not opened up. What is wrong with this Govt???
Sir,
I also feel that all entrance exam should be postponed till the time public transport services are normalized.
For example I am staying at Nabarangpur, Odisha(pin: 764059).
Candidates of this area have to travel minimum 350km to maximum 700km for appearing exam. I have came across some candidates parents from below poverty line and lower middle class family , they are in panic because of transportation issue. This transportation problem is adding an additional burden of Rs10000/- to Rs15000/- per candidate.
