#SurgicalStrike: Did India miss an opportunity to use Shiva’s bow Pinaka?

Using Pinaka, India can reach into LoC without crossing the border

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]O[/dropcap]n the intervening nights of 28-29 September 2016, Indian Para special forces Commandos carried out surgical strikes on terrorist launchpads across the Line of Control (LoC) some 3-6 km inside Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. While Pakistan has indulged in strategic deniability as mere cross border firing which is very much routine in the area, Indian media and public have dubbed it as revenge for the Uri attack. The posture of Indian Army has been that the attacks were preemptive against future strikes by the terrorists.

Pinaka is a complete Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) system developed in India by the Defence Research and Development Organisation.

In Hindu mythology, “Pinaka” is the divine bow crafted by Vishwakarma for Lord Shiva and used by him for total destruction or “Pralaya”.

Pinaka is a complete Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) system developed in India by the Defence Research and Development Organisation. A Pinaka battery has six launcher vehicles, each with 12 rockets; six loader vehicles, six replenishment vehicles, two vehicles (one stand-by) for ferrying the command post and a vehicle for carrying the meteorological (DIGICORA MET) radar, which will provide data on winds. The system has a maximum range of 40 km for Mark-I currently in active service. This entire battery consists of 72 rockets which can be fired altogether in 44 seconds, taking out an area of 1 square kilometer. The Pinaka system has been actively tested during the 1999 Kargil War and proved its effectiveness.

The point I want to drive here is that the Indian Army has the tactical capability to destroy terror camps, launch pads and other hostile terror infrastructure close to the Line of Control by mere cross-border firing without having its troops cross the Line of Control, always. Further, India may have to consider to use this tactical capability in near future given the rising spate of cross border ceasefire violations by Pakistan Rangers and Army and any future spike in the scale of cross border terrorism.

  1. Are you inbred or a special kind of stupid? If India uses PINAKA, it will give Pakistan the excuse to use their NASR short range tactical nukes which will decimate our forward troops…It will also irradiate ur mothers black pussy.
