#SurgicalStrike: Why are Kashmiri leaders shying away from praising the Indian Army?

All Kashmiri leaders are silent over the actions of the Indian Army.

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]O[/dropcap]ne week has passed when the elite para commandos of the Indian army conducted ‘surgical strikes’ and decimated terror launch pads inside Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) but none of the kashmiri leaders, including state Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had complimented their valour and patted their backs.

Ironically, none of the mainstream political leader in the Kashmir valley congratulated the armed forces…

In contrast the top brass of the political leaders across India are fighting a tough battle of upmanship to earn brownie points and earning the label of most patriotic leader in the country.

Poster war has already erupted in poll bound state of Uttar Pradesh and two national parties BJP and Congress are fighting a bitter war of words to consolidate their grip over their votaries.

Back home in Jammu and Kashmir such a behavior is expected from the Kashmiri separatist leaders but when mainstream politicians indulge in competitive separatism it raises a stink and question marks on their credibility as head of the trouble torn state.

Does the Separatists’ heart beat for Pakistan?

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]I[/dropcap]t is no political secret that separatists’ heart beat for Pakistan but what are the compulsion before mainstream politicians that instead of standing tall in support of the Indian army they have turned their backs and appearing to woo separatist leaders in the Kashmir valley.

Dr. Abdullah never advocated restraint when Pakistan backed terrorists killed 19 Indian soldiers. Did he say a word in condemnation? No!

Ironically, none of the mainstream political leader in the Kashmir valley congratulated the armed forces for the successful surgical operations in Pak occupied Kashmir(PoK). These leaders, however, tried to raise their voices in support of kickstarting internal dialogue to bring the state out of the mess.

Even Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, whose father rose to the ranks of Union Home Minister, found it difficult to publicly issue a statement complimenting the armed forces. She is yet to visit the worst affected areas of Jammu from where thousands of people have migrated to safer locations.

While staying in Srinagar Mehbooba Mufti preferred to express concern over what she said ‘the escalation of situation along the borders’.

She even warned that confrontation could lead to a disaster of epic proportions for the State.

Reach out to the people of Jammu and Kashmir

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]O[/dropcap]n Wednesday she called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and urged him to reach out to the people of Jammu and Kashmir with tangible confidence building measures to address their political, economic and developmental concerns.

On the contrary his (Farooq Abdullah) younger brother Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal echoed the Pakistan line saying Indian soldiers were killed by Indians themselves.

“The people in Kashmir have gone through enormous agony and pain and the time has come to reach out to them and apply a balm to their wounds through ample initiatives at political, economic and developmental levels,” the Chief Minister told the Prime Minister.

Mehbooba said, she urged the Prime Minister to view the current situation in the state as an opportunity and start a dialogue process with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

While expressing grave concern over the prevailing situation along the borders, Mehbooba called for de-escalation of the tension as, according to her, people in Jammu and Kashmir have been the worst sufferers of the hostility and confrontation in the region. “Today also hundreds of families have to migrate from the border areas of the State and they suffer immense hardships because of the prevailing tense situation in the region,” she said and stressed the need for reviving the peace and reconciliation process in the region.

On the other hand former Union Minister and patron of National Conference Dr Farooq Abdullah also appealed for restraint and upholding the ceasefire of 2003 post surgical operations.

Dr. Abdullah never advocated restraint when Pakistan backed terrorists killed 19 Indian soldiers. Did he say a word in condemnation? No!

On the contrary his younger brother Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal echoed the Pakistan line saying Indian soldiers were killed by Indians themselves. He even questioned the entry of the Indian commandos into PoK saying India violated the sovereignty of Pakistan. Doesn’t he know that PoK is legally part of India?

The same leaders did not speak a word against the anti-India rant by the Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in United Nations General Assembly over Kashmir but came out spontaneously when New Delhi decided to keep off from the SAARC Summit meeting in Islamabad, as protest against Pakistan’s continued support to terrorism and the Uri attack.

When the MEA spokesperson was announcing India’s decision to boycott SAARC meet, Mehbooba Mufti was pitching for ‘amicable relations between India and Pakistan to fight the poverty and economic deprivation plaguing the region’.

  1. All those Kashmiri leaders have both feet in two boats, have both sides of their bread buttered, have the best of both worlds, running with the hare and hunting with the hounds and many such applicable expressions.
Most in their heart of hearts must be waiting for the impossible feat when Pakistan Army, I S I or the terrorists will free them of India and they are saving face for that.

    • Yes that is exactly my analysis of the situation. I think many more people in India feel the same way. It is obvious where their loyalties are.
