Swamy is candid, not paranoid

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]A[/dropcap] large section of the mainstream media, most public intellectuals, and sundry busybodies love to hate Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy. Their recent broadside against was in response to his condemnation of Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan. Even as the broadside has somewhat slowed down, sporadic firing continues—the recent charge coming from Sadanand Dhume, a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, DC.

In an article in The Times Of India (June 3), he made the usual charges against Swamy. The BJP leader has been accused of being a “conspiracy theorist.” The accusation—if it can be called an accusation—is idiotic, for conspiracies do exist. Sunanda Tharoor was murdered, and Swamy was perhaps the first important person to point that out; his contention was later corroborated by the cops. The 2G spectrum scam was the result of a conspiracy, as Swamy had said it was. A statement of facts is not theorizing; conspiracy theories are manufactured when Leftists howl over the imaginary designs of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, when multinational corporations accused of endeavors to re-colonize poor countries, when liberals see fictitious monsters like Islamophobia in any attempts to check jihadists, and so on.

Yes, Islamophobia is one such fiction conjured up Leftists and liberals. Politically correct commentators don’t understand, or perhaps want to understand, the gravity, danger, and scope of Islamic fundamentalism. Lulled into the inanities like ‘all religions are same’ and ‘no religion preaches violence,’ they are unable and unwilling to accept that jihad has variegated manifestations; blasts and massacres are only a part of it. Other elements of Islamism include love jihad, personal laws, Islamic banking(interest-free banking, a jihadist ruse), etc.
Liberals are silent on Rajan’s support to Islamic banking. In 2005, long before he had taken charge of the RBI, it had constituted a committee under him to study the feasibility of introducing Islamic banking in the country. The committee said, “Another area that falls broadly in the ambit of financial infrastructure for inclusion is the provision of interest-free banking. Certain faiths prohibit the use of financial instruments that pay interest. The non-availability of interest-free banking products results in some Indians not being able to access banking products and services due to reasons of faith.”

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]T[/dropcap]here were no “certain faiths.” It is only Islam, or rather its most regressive versions, that is opposed to the concept of interest payment. In this context, it should be noted that Swamy has played a key role in checking the menace of Islamic banking in India. Notice the depravity and duplicity of liberals: they adore the sapper of jihadists while condemning the anti-jihad warrior.

Further, liberals never tire of highlighting the fact that Swamy and the Sangh Parivar have had a troubled past, during which unpleasant references were made by each side. But, then, is there any politician whose relationships have not changed in the past? Sonia Gandhi brought down the United Front government in November 1997 because the Jain Commission had revealed the alleged involvement of the DMK, a UF constituent, in Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination in 1991. A few years later, however, Sonia joined hands with the DMK, an alliance that continued till 2014 when the Dravidian party withdrew support to the Congress-led coalition at the Centre.

Similarly, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, his West Bengal counterpart Mamta Banerjee, Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, and others have been in and out of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance. Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav fought each other for decades; now they are close allies. Therefore, Swamy is not the only politician whose friends have turned into foes and vice-versa over the years.

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]A[/dropcap]nother curious charge made against Swamy is that he is part of and encourages “the paranoid style” of politics. It seems that Leftists and liberals are themselves paranoid about Rightwing politicians, be it the anti-immigrant leaders in Europe, Donald Trump in the US (and Joe McCarthy before him), anti-Nehruvian Swatantra Party stalwarts in the 1950s and 1960s, or Swamy today. The nouns and adjectives used for them tell the story—paranoid, xenophobic, Islamophobic, jingoist, fanatic, bigoted, maverick, etc. In fact, a term that journalists frequently use for Swamy is ‘maverick’; it is another matter that some of them use it (wrongly) assuming that the word has negative, derogatory connotations!

The word ‘paranoia’, however, reminds me of a cartoon I saw years ago. A psychiatrist, after examining the case history of his patient, tells her something to the effect: “Good news, you are not paranoid. People actually hate you.”

Ditto with the situation in India. The political, economic, and security-related problems that we face in India are real — and, therefore, not the result of the feverish imagination of some maverick politician. Talking about facts is plain-speaking, candor, not paranoia.

  1. How appropriate is it?

That, The RBI Governor (Banking Regulator) grants a one on one interview to a Radia-gate tainted journo & on a channel which is being probed by Enforcement Directorate for financial irregularities.

  2. Swamy is wearing all the badges thrown by the opponents proudly. Truth is always blazing and it burns those who are liars. Our Epics have innumerable examples for us to study carefully and learn the lessons.

  3. Dr Swamy is at Manasarovar , having a bath, sipping the Holy water and praying. Let us pray for his safe return

  4. +1 billion, on behalf of the silent majority.

That not a single, noisy libtard has disparaged this article yet means that it has shut them up real good. Kudos.
