Objecting to the favoritism shown towards Spice Jet and Tata’s Vistara, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy urged Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu to initiate the merger of the defunct Jet Airways with the national carrier Air India in the interests of the country. Urging Prabhu to take up this matter before the Cabinet, he also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi via a tweet to keep Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha away from favoring Spice Jet to take over the Jet Airways business.

In his letter to Suresh Prabhu, he accused the Ministers and certain officials of favoring the Spice Jet owner Ajay Singh to take over the routes of Jet Airways. He said that these illegal moves will bring a bad name to the party and that Air India should be allowed to initiate a merger with Jet Airways. He pointed out that UPA’s corrupt deal of Jet Airways with the UAE firm Etihad was done at the expense of Air India and the National Carrier ran up huge losses of assets and lost significant business.
“The closure of Jet Airways has many ramifications for the passengers, air traffic within the country and out of the country. The passengers numbers are multiplying at a high rate and foreign airlines with a small population are constantly looking for ways to get a share of this growing passenger traffic. Therefore, the closure of Jet Airways on the ongoing trouble of the airlines is destructing the traffic of passengers.
Quid Pro Quo?
“As you know I had opposed the Jet Etihad FDI arrangement on the ground of the disproportionate share of airspace given to Etihad, which is against the interest of our domestic passenger traffic, and also against the national interest. My Writ Petition (No: 883 of 2013) is now in the final hearing stage in Supreme Court. In the meantime Jet Airways has folded up, making my case in Court even stronger,” said Swamy, who has accused Congress Government several times of illegally allowing UAE Carrier Etihad for compensating the bribe collected in the 2G license of Etisalat.
The UAE mobile phone company Etisalat lost a telecom license after Supreme Court canceled all licenses involved in the 2G Scam. Swamy accused that UPA regime Ministers and Congress leadership who collected bribe from the Arab Sheiks, compensated by allowing their civil aviation firm Etihad in special route arrangement though Abu Dhabi[1].
Interestingly, Spice Jet owners Maran brothers, after NDA Government came to power handed over the airline to BJP-friendly businessman Ajay Singh in a dubious move in late 2014. Later it emerged that Ajay Singh gave only just Rs.2 for taking over Spice Jet from Maran brothers[2]. It was Ajay Singh, a close aide of BJP leader late Pramod Mahajan, who founded Spice Jet when the NDA Government was in power in early 2000. But when the UPA came to power, Maran brothers firm Sun Group took over Spice Jet in mid-2008. Now when NDA came back to power in many illegal moves Spice Jet is back with Ajay Singh, who is close to Jaitley, after the demise of Mahajan.
It is interesting to note that after this dubious deal, CBI lost a crucial corruption case against Maran bothers during the prosecution stage! Is this airline becoming a tool to exchange bribes/ settle accounts?

Buying and selling Spice Jet is a mechanism to convert black into white money for Maran Brothers. Across the party lines, DMK Karunanidhi nephews, -Sun Network Maran Brothers, P. Chidambaram from Congress, Ajay Singh, Arun Jaitley of BJP are hand in glove to close the BIG deal to get their best Cut and do the coverup.
