Terrorists are sons of the soil: Mehbooba Mufti

Speaking to media persons, Mufti asserted that the administration must try to “save” the local terrorists and hold talks with all “stakeholders”, including Hurriyat and Pakistan.

On the occasion of 71st Army Day, when the Indian army was paying homage and acknowledging the honour, the sacrifices and valour of the brave soldiers, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief, Mehbooba Mufti, dropped another bombshell by labelling local terrorists as “sons of soils”.

Earlier at the beginning of this year, Mehbooba had visited residences of local terrorists to shore up her party’s’ image in the eyes of the electorate.

“I’ve always said that the local militant is the son of the soil. Our attempts should be to save him. I believe, in Jammu and Kashmir, not only Hurriyat but those with the guns should also be engaged with, but not at this time”.

On Tuesday she didn’t stop there only. The PDP Chief also stressed that the talks with militant leadership “was the only way to end gun culture” in Jammu and Kashmir.

By saying so she literally accorded legitimacy to the various terror outfits operating in Kashmir valley and tried to include them as genuine stakeholders towards resolving Kashmir issue on the dialogue table.

Speaking to media persons, Mehbooba Mufti asserted that the administration must try to “save” the local terrorists and that it was important for the government to hold talks with all “stakeholders”, including the Hurriyat leadership and neighbouring country Pakistan.

The PDP chief also appealed to the Centre to engage with the local Kashmiri terrorists to end the “gun culture” in the terrorism-hit state.

“I’ve always said that the local militant is the son of the soil. Our attempts should be to save him. I believe, in Jammu and Kashmir, not only Hurriyat but those with the guns should also be engaged with, but not at this time”.

“I believe at some stage, talks will have to be held with Hurriyat Conference and terrorists as well,” she said.

The PDP chief, however, said that it was “too early (for talks with terrorists)”.

They are unnecessarily charging Kashmiri people before 2019. They are using Kashmiri people to garner votes.

Mehbooba said it was everyone’s duty to prevent local terrorists from walking on the path of violence.

“Right from the time I came into politics in 1996, I have been saying that local terrorists are sons of the soil and our maximum efforts should be to save them because they are assets. If an encounter breaks out, the two people (terrorists and security forces) come face to face and no one can do anything about it then,” she said.

JNU Sedition case

The PDP Chief also questioned the timing of the filing of charge sheet in the 2016 JNU sedition case, in which seven Kashmiris have been named, saying the students were being used to score political points ahead of Lok Sabha elections.

“No surprises here. We are months away from the 2019 general election and like always, using Kashmiris to score extra political points with the Indian electorate has become somewhat of a pre-requisite,” she had said in a series of tweets.

“Timing of the charge sheet couldn’t be any more suspicious. When UPA was in power, it decided to send Afzal Guru to the gallows and to this day, J&K is paying a price,” she said.

“Before elections 2019 these investigations are coming out hence we have doubt in this. You must have things in mind that before the 2014 elections, Congress hanged Afzal Guru to death as they would have thought that they will win the 2014 election with this move. Now BJP is doing the same thing what Congress had done in 2014. Now, they have charge sheeted Kanhaiya, Umar Khalid, 7-8 Kashmiri students. I condemn this. They are unnecessarily charging Kashmiri people before 2019. They are using Kashmiri people to garner votes.”

“I take all calls including those from common people of the state. My mobiles and WhatsApp have never been silent.” – Satya Pal Malik

J&K Governor bridging gaps

Meanwhile, in other related development, J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik on Tuesday reached out to the separatist leaders urging them to apprise him directly of the cases of “atrocity and injustice” to common people that they may come across.

Malik made the offer with an appeal that the Hurriyat Conference leaders should not treat him as “an alien”.

“I have a message for Hurriyat that they should not consider me as an alien,” Governor Malik told a national news agency in an interview.

“As far as Hurriyat is concerned, I have respect for them, even though their ideology is different from mine. They have a different ideology and I have a different one,” the governor added.

Promising to treat Hurriyat leaders’ complaints with due urgency, the governor said, “If they (Hurriyat) feel there is any atrocity (by troops or police), they can contact me on phone or send a person to me.”

“I will treat them (and their complaints) the way I am treating the rest of the people,” said the governor, maintaining that he has opened up the Raj Bhawan for all.

In his first-ever statement aimed at building bridges between Hurriyat leaders and the Raj Bhawan, Malik also expressed hope that “at some level, there will be talks too” with them at some time.

Explaining that he has always been hearing out the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Malik said, “I take all calls including those from common people of the state. My mobiles and WhatsApp have never been silent. All those complaints which come to me on WhatsApp, I have tried to address them.”

  1. Mrs.Mufti refereed “…..local terrorists………”for first time I heard this local/sons of the soil terrorists phraseology! Its’ better if Abdullah, NehruGandhi and Mufti khandaans let us know the “varieties” of terrorists created by them in JK, all put together in 70 years so far!

  2. But who will save the innocent people these sons of the soil terrorists? Equating the sons of the soil with those who practice terror, is dangerous. Then all the sons of Kashmir will be liable to be eliminated to restore peace and tranquility.

  3. Fantastic logic. All terrorists and murderers too are sons of this earth but why is there laws internationally to punish them? One should understand that laws to punish smart people in crime is important and requires investigation, but special laws are needed for the foolish to get punished especially when they go on to kill simply for some “virgins” in heaven? Madam Mufti, a bigger crime is in abetting the fool to commit a foolish crime.

  4. It is immaterial whether he or shee is son or daughter of the soil. What matters is the acts of terrorists is in line with “sons of the soil” ? Which is not in this case, so they are to be shot dead.

  5. Ah ah…

I feel sons of urn is best suited to these misguided folks who read upside down…

A moronic state supported by a moronic central government…..

    Leeches should be culled..not fattened
