The Spiral: An idea of a peaceful society to pursue personal goals

Published by

The idea of a peaceful society is to enable the individual to pursue personal goals, without impinging on social order, for which law is made by the society

There is something wrong in our thinking; Indians in general and Hindus in particular. More than the new items, the comments by various people are appalling. From another perspective, this is the state of affairs of the world.

The internal process if successfully carried out will result in a mind which is able to discriminate between good and bad

First of all, there is too much going on, mainly the information glut. There are real news, fake news, good things, bad things, divisive forces, uniting forces, Real intentions, fake intentions, good motives, evil motives and so forth. All this is brought to our table through media, including social media. And then, we keep commenting on these things, knowing or not, what’s Real and what’s fake. We express ourselves for and against a particular issue. There are people who don’t express anything at all.

When you expose a particular state of affairs in the society, you think you have raised awareness with regard to that subject. It’s mostly a matter of self-satisfaction only, because people understand only what they want to understand. There would be hardly any cross-over goat which says, ‘ oh, I was under the wrong impression until now, and now, this is the truth, and I’ll henceforth follow the new shepherd.

The reason for all this is a lack of effort on the part of the individual. The effort should come from within. It can’t be thrust upon him. The lacking may be due to lack of will or knowledge as to how to go about it. In the latter case, the role of the leader is to create such an awareness so that the individual is able to think for himself and take decisions. If this happens, then, only then, things will improve. Without making such an effort, and without realizing that we have a role to play in addition to voting, we expect the government to do everything for us. It’s this expectation which is exploited by the politician and all sorts of evil arises. We keep talking, fighting and protesting.

The process is largely internal. Because internal is not easily accessible we need help from a leader, who was called guru in ancient times. This is where religion, philosophy and spirituality took over. The motivations of such leaders are needed to be understood first. This again is internal. So, this internal process if successfully carried out will result in a mind which is able to discriminate between good and bad.

Now the despair sets in; when will all people get such a mind, when will they decide correctly and when will things change? If not all, at least majority of them so that we can carry on with good work. The idea of a peaceful society is to enable the individual to pursue personal goals, without impinging on social order, for which law is made by the society. What could those goals be? When you expose a particular state of affairs in the society, you think you have raised awareness with regard to that subject, finding God? For that, you need to understand your body and mind and maintain them in such a way that the society continues to thrive and the individual continues his search. And hopefully, eventually, we succeed.
