JeM planning suicide attacks on vital installations in Kashmir

A total number of nine heavily armed terrorists have been gunned down by the joint teams of the Indian security forces in South Kashmir’s Shopian district in the last 24 hours. Significantly, no major collateral damage was suffered by the security forces in these two back to back operations.

Though local residents tried to converge near the encounter site in the Reban area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district and pelted stones to disrupt the operations on Sunday local police authorities dispersed them and issued strict warnings to them to stay away to ensure their safety.

Five terrorists including a top Hizbul Mujahideen commander were killed during the fierce gunfight. Early Monday morning, four more terrorists were eliminated in the Pizur area of Shopian. Several residential structures where these terrorists were hiding at the time of encounter started were completely damaged during the operations.

The operations were carried out by the joint teams of the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force, and Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police on the basis of pinpointed information provided by the police force. According to official sources, the top Hizbul Mujahideen commander killed in the operations was identified as an A++ category terrorist, Farooq Ahmed Bhat alias Nali, hailing from Yaripora in Kulgam.

Official sources said Farooq Bhat was trapped by the security forces along with a group of four other local Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists early Sunday morning. The HM commander had earlier managed to give slip to the security forces during a cordon and search operations.

Around 100 terrorists killed since January 2020

According to official sources, “around 100 terrorists have been killed by the security forces this year so far in different encounters across Kashmir valley.”

This included several top commanders of Jaish-e-Mohammad, Lashkar-e-Toiba and Hizbul Mujahideen. The maximum number of anti-terrorist operations was carried out during the month of Ramzan in which these top commanders including Riyaz Naikoo, Junaid Sehrai, and more recently Fauji Bhai were eliminated by the security forces.

Terrorists desperate to carry out suicide attacks?

According to a recent assessment of the security forces, the terrorists are desperate to carry out strikes on security forces to avenge the killing of their top commanders.

Recently, Ghazi Haider, Kashmir based commander of Hizbul Mujahideen in a statement directed all the terror outfits to join hands together to carry out suicide attacks on the Indian forces.

In a recent interview, Director General of Police, Dilbagh Singh had stated that JeM had started using Improvised Explosive Devices as a terror tool to inflict heavy casualties on security forces.

He said, “instead of launching suicide attacks they are resorting to using of fabricated IEDs.” We have reports, several other IEDs are being fabricated and our forces are on the job to trace them and neutralize them before they are used by the terror outfit.

Terrorists not finding support among local Kashmiri population: Army

According to Lt-Gen BS Raju, Corps commander of the Indian army’s 15 Corps in Kashmir valley, various terror outfits are struggling to get support from local masses in the region. He said compared to 2018 and 2019 the total number of local terrorists who have joined ranks of different terror outfits in 2020 clearly suggests that the trend is witnessing a sharp decline.

He said, the recruitment of local youth in the terrorist outfits has reduced nearly half from 2018 to 2019 and is even lesser in 2020.

According to police records, 218 local youths had joined ranks of terror outfits in 2018 but only 139 joined in 2019. This year, 35 local youths have disappeared from Kashmir valley and may have joined terror ranks.
