[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]A[/dropcap] day after the seven brave hearts of the Indian army including two young officers sacrificed their lives while rescuing hostages inside army’s artillery unit in well fortified Nagrota based 16 corps headquarters BSF jawans early Wednesday morning stumbled upon a 80 metre long tunnel in Ramgarh sector of Samba district, 50 kms from Jammu.
The detection of a long tunnel which runs at least 80 metres inside the Indian territory has already created a flutter in the security grid.
The tunnel may have been used by the heavily armed terrorists before sneaking inside the Indian territory late Monday evening.
Immediately after the revelation was made by the Director General of BSF KK Sharma the entire security establishment in Jammu went in to a tizzy.
Meanwhile, Indian army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag also visited the Nagrota based army camp and expressed his unhappiness over the poor vigil and complacent attitude of foot soldiers as the same resulted in fidayeen storming the army camp without facing significant resistance.Ahead of his arrival to the army unit the unexploded ammunition was cleared and diffused by the bomb disposal squad to prevent any mishap and clear the ‘booby traps’.
Since Tuesday morning the security personnel were struggling to track down the route taken by the fidayeen group before storming the Nagrota based army unit.

This is the second incident since March 2016 when a tunnel was detected by the BSF jawans along the International border across Jammu frontier.
BSF jawans failed to detect the construction activity across the IB?
The fact that while workers from the Pakistani side of the border were engaged in the highly skilled task of digging out a tunnel along the International border the BSF jawans failed to detect the unusual movement in the forward area.
Senior BSF officers of Jammu frontier, Director General of state police and senior intelligence officers of central agencies also visited the spot to assess the ground situation.
To avoid any confusion DG BSF clarified the Nagrota attack that took place yesterday at an army camp was “separate” and it was part of the investigation to find out if it had any connection with the Samba terror bid.
Speculations were rife that the fidayeen group also travelled via Samba after infiltrating from across the International border with the help of local guide. Police is searching for any clue to track down the route adopted by the group as they were extended local help by an over ground worker of the sleeper cell in the region.
Addressing a press conference KK Sharma said, “After the operation got over at the Chamliyal BoP (border outpost), we checked the fence and there was no breach. Then today morning, we detected a small tunnel of the size of 2×2 metres. We had deployed ‘depth nakas’ across the fence and hence we could detect and neutralise the three militants. The tunnel was found in a field where farming is done and has soft soil.
“The tunnel is about 75-80 metres from the IB and about 35-40 metres from the fence,” he said.
The DG said the border guarding force would take up the matter with its counterparts — Pakistan Rangers, but added that due to increased hostilities, the other side is not “getting in touch” for quite some time now.
Pak terrorists wanted to target running trains?
Another senior BSF officer Special DG (Western command) Arun Kumar said the terrorists had planned to carry out a chain of terror attacks by blowing up running trains and tracks with chained IEDs and hard to detect liquid explosives, a top force official.
Top officials said the trio was carrying five bottles of liquid explosive trinitroglycerin.
“Militants had infiltrated to carry out big incidents. Their design was to blow up rail tracks and trains here as we have recovered chained IEDs and liquid explosives”, Additional Director General (ADG) BSF and Special DG (Western Command) Arun Kumar told reporters.

DGP J&K Police K Rajendra said that security agencies were probing if the group came from International Border (IB) and was part of a group of three militants killed at the border in Ramgarh sector in Samba on Tuesday.
The state police is also probing if Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) was responsible for Tuesday’s terror attack on an Army camp in Nagrota that left 7 soldiers dead, after a note written in Urdu bearing the name of JeM’s Afzal Guru Squad (AGS) was recovered from three slain terrorists.
“We are working on these links. We are going into all details, and investigation has started (into the links of JeM with Nagrota terror attack after recovery of notes in Urdu)”, Director General Of Police (DGP) K Rajendra Kumar said.
“Let us first complete the probe then we will able to say anything on it,” he added.
According to reports, a note, along with three AK-47 rifles, magazines and UBGL grenades, was recovered from the site of attack, pointing to the involvement of JeM’s Afzal Guru Squad.
The note, written in Urdu with name bearing at the end of AGS of JeM, says that they have avenged the death of Guru.
JeM have named a squad after Afzal Guru to target security forces in India last year.

I think Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag is a softy and should resign in shame given the number of attacks on our military installations under his command. It is absolutely outrageous, given the number of our soldiers are killed. All he does is visits these bases after the attach has happened, does he have any strategy in place to avoid these attacks. The situation has come to a point where attacks on military bases is become almost a common occurrence.
