Gaus Mohammad and Mohd Riyaz Ansari behead shopkeeper in Udaipur

Udaipur witnessed a gruesome murder by radical Islamists who beheaded a shopkeeper in the broad daylight for allegedly supporting Nupur Sharma in a social media post. In the horrendous incident, a shopkeeper identified as Kanhaiya Lal was murdered in Rajasthan’s Udaipur, in Maldas Street on Tuesday.

Two men identified as Gaus Mohammad and Mohd Riyaz Ansari posted a video in which they claimed killing the shopkeeper. They have also threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the video, showcasing their knives.

Around 2:30 pm two Muslim youth arrived at the shop on a bike. One of them held a phone to make a video and the other one pretended to give his measurements to the tailor. While the victim proceeded to take measurements of one of the man, he was ambushed and brutally hit on his head and neck with swords. The whole act was deliberately caught on camera. The killers, Mohammed Riyaz Akhtar and Gaus Mohammed later confessed to the killing in a video with no remorse while brandishing the murder weapon.

Udaipur Superintendent Of Police (SP) Manoj Kumar said that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident. He also informed the media that a few accused have been identified.

“A heinous murder has been committed and a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident. Few accused have been identified. Police teams constituted to locate the accused. We will take action on the video of men claiming to have committed the act,” Udaipur SP said.

BJP has condemned the incident and demanded the strictest punishment for the accused. “I hope the Rajasthan government will ensure that the perpetrators are punished,” Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said.

Curfew has been imposed in parts of Udaipur, internet has been suspended across the city and large gatherings have been banned. Hundreds of additional policemen were called in as Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot appealed for calm.

Both the accused Gaus Mohammad and Mohd Riyaz Ansari have been detained. The law and order situation is under control. Some people were attempting to come out of the bylanes but were controlled. Curfew imposed in the nearby areas: Manoj Kumar, SP, Udaipur
