In Politics nothing can be predicted and one can’t say when friends will turn enemies and vice versa. The recent classic case is the utter bitterness of Arun Shourie, Yashwant Sinha & Shatrughan Sinha with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Their justifications and mysteries have been going for the past four years. Let us look into the reasons behind the enmity or hatred of each person with Modi.

In the Udaipur hotel disinvestment case and other cases against disinvestment in courts, the prime mover was noted lawyer Prashant Bhushan.

Arun Shourie

Till the wee hours of May 26, 2014, before the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi’s Cabinet, Arun Shourie was a friend-philosopher–guide of Narendra Modi. Shourie was the first politician to float Modi as the next Prime Minister of India during the 2009 Lok Sabha elections when BJP was fighting under the leadership of LK Advani. Shourie’s relations with Modi date back to the late 90s, when Shourie and Yashwant Sinha were ruling the roost due to their proximity with Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Shourie was seen as a strategist and supporter of Modi and often seen in Gujarat from 2004 and was floating Modi’s Gujarat Model of development in national media.

It must be remembered that Arun Jaitley was the common enemy of Arun Shourie and Yashwant Sinha and as a buddy, Shatrughan Sinha always follows Yashwant Sinha blindly. Though angered with Modi for being kept out from the Union Cabinet, Arun Shourie kept silent almost till September 2014. During this period, Shourie and Modi used to meet on certain issues and it was a known secret that Arun Jaitley was doing his best to create a tussle between old friends. Jaitley was well aware that Shourie was complaining about the happenings in Finance Ministry to Modi and made some changes in the decisions.

Shourie ultimately broke with Modi, when one fine morning, he saw newspapers splashing news of a CBI decision to probe into a Udaipur ITDC Hotel disinvestment case in September 2014. This disinvestment was a Cabinet decision under Vajpayee Government and all the public interest litigations failed in the Supreme Court also. Shourie wrote a full page warning article in Indian Express against the CBI’s move and exposed that this deal was then approved by the then Law Minister Arun Jaitley.

Being an eminent journalist, Shourie was well aware that this move was to fix him and the planting of news was done by none other Arun Jaitley. After the news broke out, Shourie rushed to Modi to blast and Modi assured him that he will find how CBI decided to pursue this case, propped up by the previous UPA Government. Though Prime Minister assured, Shourie was irked by the CBI’s questioning his officers in the Disinvestment Ministry. This was the last meeting of Shourie and Modi and Shourie started declaring Modi as his rival number one.

Though common friends were pressed in for patch up, Shourie did not budge and went ahead and allied with all enemies of Modi. Look at an interesting thing that happened and this is a common phenomenon. Actually, in the Udaipur hotel disinvestment case and other cases against disinvestment in courts, the prime mover was noted lawyer Prashant Bhushan. Now Bhushan, Shourie and Yashwant Sinha united in the Rafale case to fix Modi. Politics is totally unpredictable. Now let us go to Shatrughan Sinha’s case.

It is intriguing to note that BJP has not taken any action against Shatrughan Sinha, who appeared in the Opposition rally in Kolkata and abused Prime Minister Modi repeatedly.

Shatrughan Sinha

No clear information as to why Shatrughan Sinha hates Narendra Modi. His daughter and film star Sonakshi Sinha was also a good supporter of Narendra Modi in his early days as the PM and Modi on many occasions tweeted photos with her. Around mid-2015, Shatrughan Sinha started criticising and soon started abusing Modi and daughter Sonakshi Sinha was also seen distancing herself from Modi’s meetings with Bollywood stars. After the split, Sonakshi’s star started shining less in Bollywood. Anyway, no movie producer will care to take a film actor, whose father is seen as a serial abuser of Prime Minister. There is still no concrete information as to why Shatrughan Sinha declared war with Modi and many assume, he had decided to support his longtime buddy Yashwant Sinha. Both Sinhas are considered as one unit and Shatrughan always blindly goes with Yashwant come hell or high water without looking back. Same is the case with Yashwant Sinha. He too blindly supports Shatrughan, never looking into the merits of the issue. It is still unclear, who quarrelled with Modi first, Shatrughan or Yashwant? We have to wait for the memoirs if they write in future.

It is intriguing to note that BJP has not taken any action against Shatrughan Sinha, who appeared in the Opposition rally in Kolkata, the previous week and abused Prime Minister Modi repeatedly. Sinha is still a BJP MP and one wonders why BJP is not taking action against him for this blatant anti-party activity.

There is practically no reason behind Yashwant Sinha’s anger towards Modi, who gave him a good VRS package by making his politically novice son Jayant Sinha as Minister of State in Finance and Civil Aviation.

Yashwant Sinha

What is the problem of Yashwant Sinha with Prime Minister Narendra Modi? Modi has done the biggest favour to Yashwant Sinha by making his son Jayant Sinha who had just joined politics months before in 2014. Actually, Yashwant Sinha should be eternally grateful to Modi for making his banker son Jayant Sinha and giving him plum portfolios in Finance and Civil Aviation.

Like Arun Shourie, Yashwant Sinha is also a known enemy of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. But Jaitley was so graceful in accommodating Sinha’s son as his deputy in Finance Ministry and was seen encouraging him. So why is Yashwant Sinha always bickering? Nobody can explain this behaviour of Sinha. Was he expecting some bonanza from Modi? In BJP it is not possible to accommodate both father and son; especially after son got good plum posts, especially when he joined politics just weeks before the election.

In politics, we have often seen problematic sons but rarely seen problematic fathers.
There is practically no reason behind Yashwant Sinha’s anger towards Modi, who gave him a good VRS (Voluntary Retirement Scheme) package by making his politically novice son Jayant Sinha as Minister of State in Finance and Civil Aviation. Even after father Yashwant Sinha’s all-out attack on Modi, BJP and Modi were always good to son Jayant Sinha.

Will Modi, Shourie and the Sinhas care to explain in future what the reason behind this animosity crossing all limits is? If so it would be interesting to know.

  1. A lot of people not only like PGurus but look forward to it as a bulwark against what is really unacceptable in India’s public life. It is unnecessary for PGurus to challenge its own credibility with such trite

  2. The most frivolous article on this website. Will probably make me remove this from my list of daliy websites to read up. To portray Arun Shourie and Yashwant sinha this bad – takes some bias. The most petty and bizarre article. Good bye for ever Pgurus ! You lost one reader today.

  3. So sad we hindus dont have any skill how to mentain friendship or how to deal with enemy.
Internal fights runied the future of all hindu community . One billion and no Hindu nation .

  4. First, be honest about that little credential you run after the story: talk about background, your links and the benefits thereof.
Then get into commenting on larger issues; you might have some chance at sounding truthful and unbiased to informed readers.

  5. Shourie may be against Modi, but he is an honourable man. It is failure of Modi to lose him. Reason is Arun Jaitley and he will be the sole reason for Modi’s defeat in the next election as Fin Ministry muddled in every corruption case . While Modi will keep fighting against parivarvad , he himself could not come out of AJ’s charm and that will prove to be his nemesis.

    • Yes, Shourie would have been an asset to Modi’s cabinet and to India in general. He could have handled either the Law ministry or the Ganga rejuvination one since both require meticulous study of the problem and objective solutions and constant monitoring of the progress, all of which Shourie could have accomplished. Besides, he could have been the finest spokesperson of the Govt., the BJP and the Hindu right. But this is Modi’s blunder to lose him. Still, Shourie could have maintained a dignified silence instead of losing his decorum and appearing petty.

  6. Both Sinhas and Shourie lack the dignity that Mr Jaswant Singh posses. When Dr Murali Manohar Joshi, a veteran BJP leader was denied position in the Government, he exhibited a low profile and gave an excuse that it was Modi’s prerogative. These 3 aren’t like Dr Joshi. There are other fields where they could contribute and play a vital role. But, they wanted to be Ministers. Greedy !!

  7. Arun Shourie would have been an asset as a talented Minister in Modi’s cabinet from RS.
Yashwant used to win (subject to correction) from Hoshangabadh in Bihar. ashwanth is a talented man even though presented few “roll back budgets”!!
Shatrughan Sinha MP (subject to correction) won from Patna urban.
    Modi lost both “seats”.
By planting stories AJ killed talent within the Cabinet and it seems came closure to Modi as a 24/7/365 days rescue-man in bashing opposition parties in fluent ENGLISH and Hindi too!
It is unpardonable that Modi fell for a phrase “maverick” and kept aside Dr.S.Swamy!!

Modi lost in making a talent filled Cabinet during 2014. Further Modi too fell into Vajpayee’s “Doves” and Advani’s “hawks” group politics then prevailed till 2004 !!
Modi could have avoided bad comments and ugly turn of events, bad news had he acted on both Sinhas and Shourie. BJP is too eager to bring turncoats into its fold!!
Priyanka Vadra entered politics and entire media’s attention shifts on her gimmicks eating into much time and space!!
Pgurus post can be concluded by saying that Modi does not like quality and do not like and count others “contributions” in his party. To suffice the point Dr.S.Swamy was responsible for a “ten percent” jump in BJP polled votes due to “corruption cases/issue” in May 2014!

Modi is just doing his smart politics on high profile/sensitive corruption cases while AJ brings down the edifice from behind leading to frustrations among BJPs supporters since not even one crook went to jail “as on date” while MMS sent few to jail during his two terms!! In small debates in ‘flats car parking cellars” or street corner snacks eating chats one has to cut a sorry figure defending Modi’s performance as far as sending corrupt people to jail. It is said that if we loose few thousands rupees due to bad decision we “rue” the day while lakhs of crores of rupees were swindled and Modi Govt looks for clues and AJ works even smartly.
But it is wrong to expect too much from Modi in 5 years in a 65 years old rotten dynasty-leftist system.
Due to mass exodus from Pakistan due to their poor financial reserves lasting for seven months/a war like situation, we are compelled to vote for Modi in 2019. Modi and Amit Shah should note that arrogance leads them nowhere.

  8. I read somewhere ,Mr.Yashwant Sinha requested Hon.PrimeMinister to nominate him as the President of Brick. However Govt nominated Mr.Kamath who returned from ADB.May be Media Gossip.
Otherwise there is no reason he who personally criticised former Prime Minister in his book supporting Congress.
