Why Naxalism Is Alive?

The arrest of a thousand Varavara Raos is not going to solve the problem of Naxalism.

Why Naxalism Is Alive?
Why Naxalism Is Alive?

Does the Devendra Fadnavis govt have the moral authority to talk of Naxalism, which primarily has to do with tribal struggles when its own track record is so very pathetic?

The Maharashtra police are gunning for Varavara Rao and other pro-Naxalite activists. We don’t know what evidence the police have against them. They are being accused of the violence that followed the Yalgar Parishad held to commemorate the victory of the British over the Peshwas. I, for one, can’t understand how anyone can celebrate the victory of the British,  who uniformly looted and exploited all Indians, including the Dalits. Anyway, that is a separate issue.

FIRs have been registered against a few lower rung officials. But there is nothing to prove that the govt is serious about tribal welfare. It has to be prodded at every step to act against the corrupt.

It is for the courts to appreciate the evidence that the police claim to have gathered against Rao & Co and decide suitably. But by stating that the accused were a part of an “anti-fascist” conspiracy (sic) the cops have made a laughing stock of themselves.

However, the question is does the Devendra Fadnavis govt have the moral authority to talk of Naxalism, which primarily has to do with tribal struggles when its own track record is so very pathetic? There is a Rs 6000 Cr scam currently on in Maharashtra. Money meant for tribal welfare was looted by the persons concerned.

The mega scam took place during the tenure of Vijaykumar Gavit, who was the minister for tribal welfare in the Cong-NCP coalition govt. Despite a spate of complaints, the govt did nothing. A tribal from Nashik, then filed a PIL through his lawyer Mr Raghuvanshi in Bombay High Court. The court tasked retired judge Gaikwad to probe the allegations and submit his findings. Shri Gaikwad substantially confirmed the allegations. The HC asked the Fadnavis govt to act. What did Fadnavis do? He appointed another committee under retired bureaucrat Karandikar to study the Gaikwad report!!! Can you beat this??? Fadnavis’ reluctance to act with alacrity was obviously because Gavit had defected from the NCP and joined the BJP. Presto…he is on the side of those who are supposed to prosecute him!!  In the first place, where was the need for Fadnavis to admit Gavit into his party when he was facing serious allegations? This alone shows the insincerity of the Fadnavis dispensation towards tribal welfare. FIRs have been registered against a few lower rung officials. But there is nothing to prove that the govt is serious about tribal welfare. It has to be prodded at every step to act against the corrupt.

It is this great let down of the tribals by mainstream parties which is giving Naxalites an opportunity to further their violent political agenda by exploiting tribal discontent. Tribals are our people and they deserve justice. The arrest of a thousand Varavara Raos is not going to solve the problem of Naxalism. The tribals have no access to justice. Already 3.5 Cr cases are choking the judiciary. Tribals have no chance of being heard. The need is to provide honest tribal administration.

  1. Rudderless Dalits community is being exploited by Maoists now.
It was exploited by Congress n Missionaries n even peacefulls in the pastit should be stopped at ANY cost .

  2. It is a pity to note that Mr
Gavit , formerly of NCP & now in BJP , accused of and found to have looted the budgetary allotment , is being protected rather than looking into the failure of implementing much touted and published welfare schemes for the tribals , is nothing but aiding & abetting violent revolt by the tribals and calling them names – Naxalites & Maoists – is the most condemnable act of the present party in power.

  3. Whatever may be justification for the grievance of any section of the Society, in a democracy where rule of law is supreme, can any organized group, give room for strong suspicion that it is at the forefront of a plot of armed conflict with the government and in the process even attempt to assassinate those who matter in the administration of the country ? If this line of extremism is supported directly or indirectly, what differentiates these groups from ISIS?
